Recovery after flu

My 20 month old ds (and the rest of the family who've had it too) is recovering from flu. He started with it a week ago and the worst of the symptoms subsided by about 3 days ago. He had a high temp, runny nose, bad cough etc.

Anyway now he is still so wiped out he has been demanding (in his own way) to go to bed an hour and a half earlier than normal despite having had 3 hours sleep today at lunchtime. Is this normal? He normally has 12 hours at night and a 1.5 hr nap and it just seems odd that even a few days after the worst of the symptoms have gone (he only has a runny nose and bit of a cough now) he still needs to sleep quite so much?

This pm he just didn't want to get out of bed and only did so at 4pm and then wanted to go back to bed at 6.15 (after 2 and a quarter hours of grumpiness!)

You'll need to go with the flow for a while, until he's fully recovered - often when their appetite goes into overdrive for a few days!

Sleep is good when anyone is ill - babies/children need it even more ime.

Hope you all get better soon!

Thanks Mercy. I guess it is obvious he'd need more sleep - just concerned that he seems to be needing even more than a few days ago rather than less!

we have all been wiped out by it and I just wish I had been able to lounge around in bed all day like dh and ds have when it was their turn!! No rest for the SAHM with flu!
