How long should I expect to be mopping up pools of diarrhoea?

DS (1 yo) has a bad upset tummy and has had diarrhoea for over a week now. Doc doesn't seem too worried as he doesn't have a temperature and is quite chirpy, but they have sent a poo sample off. But there doesn't seem to be any sign of it slowing down or firming up. How long do these things usually last?

Also, if it isn't a bug, any ideas what might be causing it? As it's gone on so long, I'm doing my paranoid pessimist bit and worrying about food allergies etc or some vital organ not working . DS is hungry so I'm feeding him but by the end of the day he also quite often pukes, as if what I've fed him hasn't been digested much. Was up half the night last night with two full changes of baby and bed clothes followed by puke all over me.

The first time our dd had one it lasted a good week I'm afraid.

Lots of sympathy.

My mother caught ds' gastric bug and had it for about 2 weeks. What nappies are you using? Can you try another brand if they're leaking?
