Lumps of flesh in 3 yo poo. Anyone else had this??

Hi.
My 3 year old today had a poo that at first I thought had a lot of blood in it, but on closer inspection I realised that it was more like lumps of flesh, very red in colour, throughout the stool ( do have a pic but may be a bit gross to post). There was enough to find it shocking. I dissected a bit using a tissue (I know, so gross!) and it was indeed flesh like - it held together, was just like raw steak!
I called 111 and they said to take him to A&E. I took with me a sample and pictures. The nurses had not seen anything like it and neither had the doctor. He said it looked like flesh but had no explanation as to why it was there. His blood pressure, temp, pulse etc were all fine and he felt his stomach and said all was OK.
His advice was to wait and see if it happened again, if there were any other symptoms that emerge etc. Then he would recommend seeing a paediatric surgeon.
Although he didn't seem too worried, I am concerned as there was no explanation given.
His general health is good. He is very energetic, doesn't eat well but has always been v fussy. He complains of stomach ache sometimes, but Ive put it down to his reflux he has suffered with and just as an excuse to get out of eating food he doesn't want. Took him to the doctors a few months ago to check it out and they suggested ranitidine, but he didn't complain of it too often at all and so I didn't think it was worth trying to get 3 syringes of medication down him twice a day if it wasn't really bothering him. But now this with no warning!
Its not normal, is it? Im freaking out about a tumor or something and would be really grateful of any experience anyone else has??
Thanks in advance. x

So sorry your 3 year old is going through this- I can imagine you're very concerned.
I have no direct experience, but googled 'flesh in stools' and loads of people have experienced it, usually as a result of peptic ulcers or Crohns disease.
Of course, it may not be, but it look likes it's quite a well recognised symptom.I have no medical knowledge though .
Sounds like the medication given previously to reduce stomach acid may well have been heading the right way.
I think a trip to see your Doctor would be the way forward. x

Thank you. I saw those too, but it looks like pain is a big symptom (but not much on very young kids with it, so hard to know).
I think you're right, I should chase up with my GP for some more answers.
x
