I've struggled with my weight for years. I have had success with various eating regimes over the years, Zoe Harcombe, whole 30 etc, but over the last 9 months I have put on a massive amount of weight without any apparent reason. I've had extensive tests with my GP, and nothing turned up.

I have gained 12 kg and I am starting to feel as if I need to try something more permanent

I'd love to hear any of your experiences of gastric procedures.

Hi beryl.

I haven't personal experience but two friends have had gastric by pass surgery.
One male super morbidly obese upwards of 30 stone.
One female 4 stone overweight but very small in height.
They both had gastric sleeves.

Male friend lost 14 stone however has regained 10 stone.
Female friend lost 3 stone regained 2

I think the biggest issue is that the operation does not address the psychological side of why you overeat
Therefore the need is still there and there are ways to cheat.
Male friend would eat and then experience 'dumping syndrome '
Female would eat chocolate etc instead of proper meals.

I think as a tool gastric surgery is useful but it certainly is not a cure.

Good luck
