Inverted nipple, burning in breast and pain in armpit

I think I'm in trouble.

I've ignored this for a long time but recently there is a pain in my armpit.

I'm on my period at the moment and I'm trying to calm myself down with the possibility that the two are related.

I wish it was Monday so I could go to the doctor.

Put it down to hormonal changes whilst on your period for now. But have an appointment lined up first thing on the Monday.
I don't want to give any medical advice as I am not qualified too, but you have to remember that so many of these things end up being fine

Hi there, I've been where you are and understand the worry. See your GP on Monday and try to remind yourself in the meantime that pain is not normally a symptom in breast cancer, most referrals to a breast clinic are found not to be breast cancer and in the tiny proportion of cases that are cancer, survival rates are very very good. Try to distract yourself this weekend and best wishes for Monday.

Is the inversion new?
Go see GP and get referral on Monday.
Breast cancer is not the death sentence it once was. Most people now survive. Treatment isn't pleasant but it's entirely manageable. For most people it's a blip in their lives. I would say it was actually good for me (but then I am a bit random sometimes).
Your period could be causing the discomfort but not the inversion so don't tell yourself it's just menstruation related.

It's a bit worrying but the waiting and not knowing is by far the worst bit.

It could easily be infection or something similar. See a doctor as soon as possible but try not to fret.
I had a smear a few years ago, I had a phone call answer phone message (ffs!) from my surgery about 4pm one Friday afternoon before a BH weekend saying they wanted to talk to me, by the time I got it the surgery was bloody closed!!! She just said it was
About my smear results ..... cue major panic!! I had to wait
The freakin weekend just to have the nurse say oh yes mrs flumpy you seem to have thrush too so just buy some over the counter treatment .... which is done the week before anyway ..... weekend if major worry for nothing!!!
Don't worry ...... just sort asap on Monday, or if you have a walk in centre perhaps try there or ring non emergency line for advice

Roughly four years ago, I had a check up with a consultant in a breast clinic here in Dublin.

He blurted out "oh yes, you have a huge lump" I burst out crying as I hadn't gone because of a lump but because if the nipple so that is definitely not new.

I then went for an ultrasound but left feeling I hadn't been checked properly.

The burning sensation is not new with but comes and goes. The pain in my arm pit is very recent and feels like it goes from my armpit, out to the middle of my chest and up.

I have 3 little kids. I have been so irresponsible not getting checked sooner.

Now is not the time to beat yourself up! Now is the time to be kind to yourself, to know you are now seeking medical advice. One step at a time.

Did you have the lump biopsies before in Dublin? What did doctor say it was? Did he not mention the nipple?
It might be nothing but you have to hold it all together, get checked and not start working yourself up into a 'but I won't see my children grow up' frenzy - although easier said than done.
Pain is often not a sign of breast cancer. Even if it is a cancer, most are quite slow growing and have been around for several years before they are spotted. Has the lump changed? One imagines were it malignant you would see changes over four years.

My ex husband cheated so I had an sti check and the nurse explained they would only contact me by phone if there was a problem. I was particularly concerned aboyt HIV as there had been at least one visit to a prostitute. Couple of days later I'm sitting at the kitchen table having just finished a sandwich when my phone rang and it was the clinic. I almost brought my sandwich up. As soon as she said the name of clinic I told her to give me one minute as I felt sick. It was the counsellor calling just to see how I was feeling!! Took me ages to calm down after.

Crumbs- the doctor was happy with the ultrasound so wasn't concerned about the nipple. Said it could just be a small problem with a milk duct. The sonographer (so) was distracted.

Yes, get checked. Most breast problems are not cancer, I've had to go and be checked several times but nothing sinister was happening. What did they say about the lump when you were last seen?

They just said not to worry as the ultrasound looked good.

I've emailed my doctor for an appointment asap.

Have you looked up duct all ectasia. This can cause all these symptoms and is benign.

Could the pain be in your ribs rather than the breast itself? Could it be costochondritis? here.

Hi. About six weeks ago I had a big pain in my nork. I noticed my nipple had inverted and didn't want to come out. Got referred to breast vlinic. Yes it was cancer - a 1cm lump right behind the nipple. Had investigayions. 9 days ago had a lumpectomy and node removal. The boob looks battered but is fine. Under my arm is troublesome. I get the results back this week to see if the area is clear and I can say I HAD cancer. I then start radiotherapy and hormone treatment.

Go get checked out. BC is very treatable now. Yes, it's scary, yes, it's emotionally a bit rollercoastery, yes, it's stressful but am I going to live - yes. Have I been saved from something pretty horrible in less than six weeks - yes. Go get it seen to. If you leave it, amd it is a something then it will only grow. If you leave it and the most likely scenario is that it's a cyst then you will worry which will exhaust you. Think - in six weeks time this could be sorted.

Generallyok - I just looked that up and yes I have the discharge. It's white and thickish. It's never on my bra, just a small bit in the nipple ig that makes sense.

It's the pain in my armpit that is worrying me the most. I'm imagining all sorts here!

Dubious - it's definitely not a pain in my ribs. It feels like it's deep in the middle of my breast.

Flying - I'm so sorry to hear that. How are you feeling now? Are you getting support? I have had the inverted nipple a long time as well as the pain in my breast but the armpit pain is new. This morning when I initially posted I could feel it constantly but now not so much.

This is classic me, leave everything until the last minute.

I'm 38 with no family history of breast cancer. Not that that means anything.

I know it is really hard not to worry but chances are that the 2 are unrelated particularly if the nipple inversion is not new. I regularly have breast pain including under armpit but now try to forget about it as it comes and goes like pain any where else in the body.

I'm ok. Went out for breakfast and to see a friend this morning and had to have a sleep afterwards. I'm 52 but have learned a lot - quite a few of the ladies on the Breast Cancer forums are in their early forties and one is 26. Everyone keeps telling me that it was good that I checked, etc but feel a fraud because I never did - it was purely the inverted nipple that made me go to the quack.

I did find that when you phone the gp and say there is a lump then you get seen really quickly so don't minimise anything and get seen. When I went for the appt at the hospital, she had a feel and I was sent for an immediate mammo, snd ultrasound with biopsy. The latter sounds scary but it really wasn't. If you have a mammo, take paracetamol an hour and a half before you go.

The breast cancer care forums have been brilliant. You can contact a nurse on there so I really recommend that.

Percentage wise, it could well be nothing but don't leave it any longer.

Age means nothing to cancer does it.

I'm going to insist on a mammogram. I think it's the only way I can be reassured to be honest. I've emailed my surgery and asked for an appointment asap so I'm not going to sit around and leave this any longer.

Age means a lot actually. Most breast cancer is in post menopausal women and the incidence increases with age.

You should be referred under two week rule to a one stop clinic. You will have all diagnostics you need at that appointment. You'll have time with a consultant surgeon, see a clinical nurse specialist if you want and be offered tests as appropriate. You are likely to be given an indication of whether it is a malignancy on that same date but will have to go back in about ten days to get full results of any biopsies. Then if necessary your offered treatment swiftly and efficiently but with real compassion. Macmillan also has very active forums and helpline.

Hopefully, it will be nothing significant (as 95% of lumps are benign). If it isn't you'll cope better than you can ever imagine.

Op the burning pain in the breast/armpit sounds like me a few years ago. I was convinced I had breast cancer. Turned out it was a symptom of anxiety. I didn't believe the gp when she suggested it could be, but a few weeks after starting on the anti anxiety meds, the pain went.

Im not saying that's what it is with you but anxiety can cause very real physical symptoms. With me, during this particular flare up, it was a burning, aching feeling in my boob and armpit, sometimes into my arm. Go and see your gp of course, but please don't assume the worst.
