diarrhoea and mumps single jab

DS (2.5) had single mumps jab about 3 weeks ago and ever since he has had on and off diarrhoea. I thought it had gone but it was back today. he's fine in himself and is eating normally. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm a bit worried it's damaged his gut - is this possible does anyone know.

Don't relish thought of taking him to docs and getting the "well what do you expect' type response.

Give him probiotics and see if that helps. Best to get the ones kept in the fridge in the heath food shop - something like banana acidophillus is good -(rather than yakult or something) and mix it in with yoghurt/any favourite food. usually a child only needs a tiny dose- about 1/4 teaspoon.

we chose single vaccines for our ds1 and remember diarrhoea on and off for a long time and they smelt competely different. not much help katierocket but it did go after a couple of months. it seemed to be particularly bad the first weeks after the vaccine. it was called 'mumpsvax' i did ring directhealth2000 who vaccinated and they said it was normal. he is now 4 and a half and no problems since. jimjams advice sounds very good. there is a really good probiotic for children i now use called 'abcdophillus' i think its made by solgar who have a very good reputation.

Oh 1/4 teaspoon for a while- few weeks anyway- not just once!

I gave ds2 probiotics when he was 6 weeks as he had been put on antibiotics. Checked with the HV and she checked with a nutritionist- so it's OK!

thanks - I have given him probiotics before when he was really run down. Friend recommended them - they were in powdered form, I will give it a go and see if it helps.

another vote for Solgar ABCdophilus, always a good idea after diarrhoea.

someone mentioned on another thread that the jabs contain sorbitol, which is a laxitive.
if you have been using calpol (or similar) this also contains sorbitol.
