Breast lump and 34 weeks pregnant

A few weeks ago I found a lump in my breast, I stayed really calm about it and made an appointment with my gp who confirmed yes that's a lump and referred me to the breast clinic, 2 weeks on I have just had my appointment at the breast clinic and the lump is about an inch long, the edges are uneven and it is a solid mass so they took a biopsy. I now have to wait 3 weeks for the results! It should be sooner but there are no appointments before. Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences like this that have turned out to be nothing serious?

I have been so calm but this has got me worried! Thanks in advance. x

I actually was going to comment that I doubt they leave it three weeks to phone you if it was serious. And also breast cancer lumps aren't usually painful either from what I've read.

If it is cancer you will hear sooner. I've just had a lumpectomy yesterday and the whole process from 'oh, that's odd' to yesterday has been six weeks in total. I have to wait two weeks to get the margin clear result (fingers crossed) only because the clinic won't have them back for the Monday meeting. then have radiotherapy. The only thing is that if it is cancer then they aren't going to treat you until after baby is born. fingers crossed for you. Feel free to pm me about any aspects of treatment.

If it is painful, it is unlikely to be cancerous.

Flyingprettycretonnecurtains · 05/05/2017 18:08

Really sorry but mine was painful and that was one of the things I first noticed. Granted, they are not supposed to be but mine was (trying to get used to using the past tense now!)

P1nkP0ppy · 05/05/2017 18:14

If you know the consultant's name can you see him/her for a one-off private appointment without jeopardising your place in the NHS? I did this a number of years ago because it was an 8 week wait from early November to over Christmas and New Year. Mine was 'suspicious' but turned out to be benign, but I remember the dreadful feeling.
Fingers crossed for you op.

LuluJakey1 · 05/05/2017 19:12

I know it isn't 100% true Flying but is usually the case that painful lumps are much less likely to be cancerous. So sorry it wasn't true in your case and hope you are recovered Flowers. No breast lump should ever be ignored.

Oopsypoopsy · 05/05/2017 21:56

I know I've read that they're not meant to be painful but some obviously can be, in all the research I've done, the symptoms are very loose and really with cancer anything goes! I have also read some very reassuring things about suspicious looking lumps being benign so I still have hope!

I'm 35 weeks pregnant now so if it is bad news I will be induced a couple of weeks early to get going with treatment.

I spoke to the private hospital where the consultant also works and they said it would take longer to get my records sent back and forth rather than to just keep it as it is. It would have only cost £150 too so would have been more than happy to pay that! x

Any news yet X

Oopsypoopsy · 09/05/2017 23:17

Not really. I called the breast unit today to nag for an earlier appointment and they gave me the number for the dr's secretary who was quite helpful actually. She said no results have come back yet but my case is scheduled in for discussion in this fridays consultant meeting so hopefully they will have them then so she said to ring her Monday morning and she will do what she can. My lump is now really painful and swollen and has changed the shape of my breast a bit because of the biopsy. It's making me worry now that it has become visible! Hating this! 🤕Thanks for asking. x

Sometimes I get lumps like that because sometimes my milk ducts get blocked it could be due to pregnancy hormones making ur breasts ready for milk production try relax bubba needs u happy and settled

Oopsypoopsy · 10/05/2017 11:54

Thank you sexymommy. I wish it was a blocked duct but it definitely isn't anything fluid filled its a solid lump of something. I'm hoping something fibrous! It did seem to suddenly appear there the size that it is. It didn't grow gradually, don't know if that means anything. x

Everytime I have a lump like that I always go straight to the emu oil it's a rub that gets deep into the muscles and reduces inflammation immensely stops the pain 2

Oopsypoopsy · 10/05/2017 12:48

Will give it a try thank you! x

It sounds like something inflamed or blocked or infected. Fingers crossed for good news.

Oopsypoopsy · 10/05/2017 22:57

Thank you lulu that's what I'm keeping everything crossed for! Just that it's something I can at least deal with once I'm done breast feeding a few months down the line. x

No don't start rubbing at something that could just possibly be malignant, that's the worst advice. You could spread cells that are currently contained.

eviethehamster · 11/05/2017 07:32

No advice OP but I hope things turn out ok for you! Flowers

I will do. I'll be phoning on Monday so either they'll tell me something over the phone or I'll get an appointment sooner. x

BagelDog · 15/05/2017 15:46

Hoping that you hear soon, waiting is dreadful. As it will have been discussed then at least the news either way should come with a plan of action, but fingers crossed it is something annoying but boring xx

DubiousCredentials · 17/05/2017 06:52

Any news OP?

lovemyhorsesxo · 17/05/2017 12:23
