Itchy rash

I'm covered in a really really itchy rash that came on suddenly last week. It started around my belly button - and i thought it was because my two year old is always poking my tummy while having a cuddle, and might have scratched me. But then it spread across my chest, down my thighs, back of legs, arms, neck and scalp.

I went to the dr who said that it was urticaria, although the rash on my tummy looks like excema so he said it was 2 different conditions. That doesnt' really make sense as it all started on the same day. He gave me antihistamines and a lotion,but neither are making any difference and i'm scratching all night - its now bright red and angry looking, and spreading by the day.

I"ve not changed washing powder, soap, eaten anything different etc, no idea where this has come from.
Anyone got any experience of this or know what might help - i'm going insane!

If you are taking the antihistamines and using the lotion with no effect, go back to the doctor. GPs will always assume that the treatment has worked if you don't reappear. It is so hard to diagnose a rash without seeing it - it could be any number of things - fungal infection, cellulitis, have you been swimming, out for a walk in woods, fields etc, eaten seafood???? The list of possibilities is endless. Hope you get it sorted out soon.
