For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and more detailed information here

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 17/03/2007 08:21

oh YES didn't think of that

they LOVE stickers

first I must knit and felt said reward chart

trouble is...they'd start giving me and dp stickers also for same thing...

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2007 08:29

well that is only fair

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 17/03/2007 09:22

yes i usually put my arm round ds's shoulders when telling him off-dunno why-habit

so, when he is telling other kids off-and me-he also tries to put his arm round their shoulders

this has been misconstrued...

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2007 14:39

Has anyone actually eaten any fruit, or veg, this week?

Filly did you go to the gym?

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 17/03/2007 14:41

I have been to the gym three times for a total of 1 hour each time

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2007 14:47

Zippi that is very good*

I thought you might be cross with me after you spent all that time thinking of green foods for me

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 17/03/2007 15:05

oh no I enjoyed it..er I did surmise that polyfilla was unlikely to be a proper person

I'm actually liking the gym better now..though it is still a chore to go..half way through it becomes ok as i feel it's nearly achieved!

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2007 15:37

What do you do while you are there Zippi?

OP posts:
Tatties · 17/03/2007 18:21

Franny you have had me humming Ride a White Frickin Swan all day As well as Certain People I Know which is a bit of a rip off of the tune...

While we aren't on the subject of fruit & veg , Filly - I saw on another thread you went to Edinburgh Uni, so did I! When were you there?

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2007 18:26

I may have found a friend to go to the gym with, which will be great for the cardio bits I think, as I get so bored (even with Ride a Fricking White Swan)

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 18/03/2007 08:19

oooh 1997-2001

my degree is in religious studies (mainly dead languages) but I did 4 years of pschology also.

you?

Fillyjonk · 18/03/2007 08:19

at franny's and her friends

zippitippitoes · 18/03/2007 08:51

I make it up but I haven't been going long

for example 10 mins on reclining bike thing at number 4

10 mins on treadmill something like 5.2 kms speed and varies between 13 and 19 steepness depending how I feel

and 5 minutes cool down programme on auto from the machine

then I do all the weight amchines..seated row and about ten goes on about 20kg

10 peck decs on about 15kg

chest press? 20 on about 20kgs

the one above your head about 20 on 15kg

anopther one about the same

lifting a weight up with legs on about 20kg about 10

same thing but scrunching it under about 10

leg abductors 20kg about 50

other leg abductor 50 each sitting bent over and up straight

pushing off backwards from seated position legs high about 20 on 40kg

then legs low 20 and legs low apart 20

hate the cross trainer but sometimes do 3 minutes on that because I'm determined to conquer it

if time I then go back to treadmill and do another 5 or ten minutes

FrannyandZooey · 18/03/2007 13:06

Zippi good stuff! Do you ever go on that gym thread where the poster gives advice about how to work most effectively at the gym? I think I must look it up and get on that thread.

Filly it is only one friend and an ex-boyfriend to boot (good job dp is not of the jealous persuasion). I have yet to co-incide our visits but I am optimistic that I can bend him to my will.

Glad you are out of hospital and all went well Overrun. Not so clever about the Dt's nose though, poor lad.

I am busy watching 39 Steps, eating biscuits, so cannot claim to be performing well in the 10/10 stakes. Have been eating OK and riding and netballing earlier in week.
I had no idea about T-Rex, I do like pre-Green REM however. I am more of a Jam fan (as you may have guessed from name...)

Well not much posting or veg for me this week ladies as I will be working in Eastern Europe .

Tatties · 18/03/2007 21:58

Filly I was there 1999-2003. I did French and German. Still have frequent yearnings for the place...

Overrun, glad the op went well, hope you are recovering ok
