Help! Has anyone else experienced painful(but not swollen) finger joints after giving birth? Started 4 weeks prior to DD's birth but she's now 9 weeks and it's still uncomfy. Don't know if it's because she's bf and using up all my calcium or something more sinister like the onset of athritis. Any thoughts? Forgot to mention to doc at 6 wk check - doh!!

I had similar thing, needed specialist treatment. See a dr..

Don't like the sound of that - what did it involve?

had a choice between steroid injected in joints or physiotherapy for 6 weeks. Chose the steroids (very painful) which put fingers out of action for a couple of days. Was then absolutely fine. Think you have to see your dr though. Your prob could be smg completely different..

Hi NM, if you're still reading, do see if the GP will refer you for an EMG first (electromyograph) - I work in the dept. of a hosp. that does these, and it's the only accurate way to determine if it's CTS and not something else (sorry, that's Carpal Tunnel)... in theory if it's pg. related it may well go again, but worth checking.

Well, went to see dr this am and he thinks its athritis and has given me some anti-inflammitries to try. Says it's not ct as i've not had pins and needles or loss of feeling in my hands.

I just saw this thread and wanted to say that after I had dd2 in 2005 I had really stiff sore finger joints. I had blood tests to check for arthritis and they came back negative. In the end it just went by itself. It probably took a good few months to go though and seemed to coincide with me stopping breastfeeding. I don't have the slightest bit of stiffness now.

thanks lubielou. Pills aren't making much difference so far so hope your right about the bf for me!
