discoid eczema

Basically, I have atopic eczema which can get bad but I can cope with. However, in July I started with discoid eczema. It went undiagnosed and eventually got so bad on my lower legs that the dr thought it was ulcers due to pregnancy. I saw the dermatologist almost immediately who said it was discoid eczema and I started treatment with various steroid creams and ichthopaste and hydrocolloid dressings. I've been getting treated at the hospital since September for it however it hasn't improved greatly. The hospital then decided that it was probably a hormonal reactio to pregnancy and that it would improve when DD arrived. I haven't been to the hospital since early January as I was happy just to continue the treatment at home. It nearly cleared when I had 2 weeks of oral steroids for my asthma but then swiftly returned.

It's now 4 weeks since I had DD and if anything it's considerably worse. It is now over most of my legs, my bum, back and arms. It's incredibly itchy and some of the wounds are very sore and bleed a lot. And I'm sick to death of putting on creams and messy bandages. I'm sick of wearing long sleeves and no skirts (mind you, my legs have scarred so maybe never wear skirts again). I'm sick of throwing out bed sheets as they are constantly covered in blood, pus and gunky bandage stuff. I'm sick of not being able to do things like taking DS swimming as I look like I have the plague. I'm thoroughly miserable about it all the time and am always itching and frequently bleeding.

I'm back to the dermatologist tomorrow and if they don't have any other suggestions I don't know what to do. I really feel like I can't keep going with all this fussy bandaging etc when it's not doing much good. Has anyone had any great success with non conventional treatments? I'm willing to try most things. Money not too much of a problem but time is!

really sorry to hear this suzi2. My dds both suffered a lot with eczema when younger and dd1 got some discoids but not as bad as yours sounds, plus they did respond to conventional treatment. I hope someone else can help you wiht this. It must be doubly hard since you have just had a baby ( congrats btw).

Hope someone else can assist.

Sorry that you're suffering so badly suzi . dd has discoid excema but it is well under control, with conventional treatment, although it took some time. It's notoriously difficult to treat so I do hope that your dermatologist can come up with some alternatives for you.
