DS2 has been ill for a week with D+V and flu before this. This evening he suddenly got a lot worse with fever and stomach pains so we rang the out of hours number and were asked to go to the surgery.
I still have the flu so DH took DS and I wrote down the events of DS's illness, I felt really guilty not being with them
They just came back and DS handed me a letter written by the GP (complete with smiles)-

Dear Thomas's Mummy
Thomas was a VERY good boy at the Doctors
He has a viral "Tummy Bug". The tummy ache is part of the infection. Give Calpol. Keep him off milk. Try dry toast, plain biscuits, dry rice crispies.

I just thought it was a really lovely thing to do.

Restores your faith in the personal touch that i am sure more GP's would love to do if it wasn't for government targets!

lissielou · 09/03/2007 21:47

Beauregard · 09/03/2007 21:48

scatterbrain · 09/03/2007 21:48

Was doctor a woman by any chance ?

maymum · 09/03/2007 21:48

If only they were all like that...

I hope that you and DS feel better soon

Tiggiwinkle · 09/03/2007 21:50

What a nice touch

Lilliput · 09/03/2007 21:51

That is lovely.
When I had both my babies my GP dropped round to see how we were doing but mostly because he loves newborn babies. I can't imagine all GP's do that.

It was a lady (I wonder if she's a Mumsnetter?) I don't know which surgery she works in normally, it's fylde coast out of hours service - it's actually easier to get seen by them than our regular gp!

sorry to hear DS is poorly, what a lovely doctor you have. hope DS feels better soon

scatterbrain · 09/03/2007 21:53

I knew it - It had to be a woman didn't it ! Bet she's a mum too - so she has empathy - so many male GPs lack that big time !

Lovely of her to spare the time though !

Hope you both feel better soon

mamama · 09/03/2007 21:54

Troutpout · 09/03/2007 21:56

bubblerock · 09/03/2007 21:56

Hopefully it will soon be over, it's a nasty one this time!
I wish I knew who the gp was actually as I'd write a letter to her surgery.
