5 week old and cold

DS is five weeks old on Sunday and has a rather blocked nose. Everything in the pharmacy is for 3 months and up; does anyone have any tips on clearing it? We have tried vicks + boiling water next to the cot but it makes me a little nervous...
Wouldn't mind so much but he can't feed probably as he has to stop and gasp for breath just a few seconds in.

You can try saline nasal drops. They worked wonders for us. They made him sneeze so it was good at bringing the snot out!!

The pharmicist told me not to use vicks (child's version) until 3 months. I know it is a pain, but perservere with the the nasal drops. Good luck!

My HV had suggested making the bathroom really steamy and taking the baby in, to help clear the blocked nose... Good luck, it will pass

Thanks minigirl; can we get those in a pharmacy? Surprised they didn't suggest it when we asked about this.

I use saline nasal drops. If you use them often (use quite a lot) they are supposed to help stop the cold turning into an ear infection as they also wash away all the snot that's running down the lo's throat. I also have a little suction thing that you can use to blow baby's noses for them. It's very easy and effective - I guess chemists prob sell them. All this stuff is standard medical advice in other European countries - don't know why UK doctors don't recommend these things (?)
