Any anaesthetists about? I've accidentally overestimated my weight. Having op tomorrow.

I've told them I'm 52kg, weighed myself when I got home and I was 48.6.

Do you know if it's a problem? I will tell them tomorrow but I'm not in the UK and I don't know if I'll get across the right thing with the language barrier. So it would be useful to know if it's really urgent and I need to try everything to explain or whether I can try to say so but ultimately not worry about it.

I am thinking that it can't be too much of a problem because if they needed accuracy, they would have weighed me rather than asking. But at the same time it is almost 10% of my total weight.

Write your new weight down.
Surely they will understand that ?

Titsywoo · 31/03/2017 22:53

They should ask you again on the day and if they don't tell them when the anaesthetist comes to speak to you before the op. I'm sure it's not really a big deal though.

RedBugMug · 31/03/2017 22:56

they should ideally weigh you themselves or estimate by looking at you. that's the gasman's job.

'ich habe mich gestern gewogen und mein gewicht war achtundvierzig komma sechs kilo'

good luck!

Thanks, I told them and they said not to worry, operation went well, it did take them ages to wake me up but that's quite normal for me! So I don't think I had too much.

Glad it went well Flowers

That's a relief! Bit odd that they wouldn't actually weigh you at the hospital, though?

BertieBotts · 01/04/2017 09:35

No idea, perhaps the weight is just an estimate/starting point and they actually control it depending on heart rate or something. I had an ECG on and a blood pressure cuff.

Are you still in hospital? 🍇🍇🍇

Instasista · 01/04/2017 09:39

Get well soon OP! I guess they don't weigh you before emergency surgery so it can't be that critical?

BertieBotts · 01/04/2017 10:04

Nope, in and out the same day! Very efficient.
