coughing up blood - from nose or elsewhere?

DS2 gets a lot of nosebleed. He was asleep in the car just now and suddenly coughed. when I looked round he had coughed up a load of blood. then his nose started bleeding. I am assuming it was the start of a nosebleed which came out of his mouth (sorry for tmi) as he coughed. But it was pretty unpleasant.

Anyone else had this with a young child?

Yes - my eldest had awful nosebleeds until he was about 5. Always when he was a bit under the weather. I always knew he was coming down with something when it happened. He had inherited the tendency from his dad. He outgrew it eventually, but if it is really bad/frequent, it can be treated.

liekly to be his nose, but as he has gut issues, need to ensure it is not coming from his gut. x

if he has any ulceration, in his mouth or gullet, you can spit up blood/ have blood in your vomit....in Crohns , you can get ulceration from the mouth downwards, and can get bleeding...for example....it would show up on any barium type procedures..for eg

if he had just woken up, it is more likely his nose started bleeding and that is waht he cougheed up

sorry for making you even more worried
