Hacking cough

DD (11 months) has had a hacking cough for a couple of weeks now. 5 minutes coughing phlegm each morning. If it follows the usual pattern she will in the next day or two go bright red and feverish and need antibiotics for tonsilitis. Is there nothing I can do to avoid this happenning yet again?

Very old fashioned opinion: get them removed. I don't think you can prevent it happening. My boss is 50 and in the past year he has been off twice with tonsilitis. I had mine out at age 5 and its a standard procedure which I don't think they do on the NHS anymore but you could go private? Good luck with the DD. Hope she is better soon.
