should I vaccinate my child or not?

I am currently 17+2 weeks pregant so I have a little while before I decide. But it's something me and my partner have argued about on numerous occasions. To this date I have never had any vaccinations whatsoever. Despite no one believing me throughout my whole life I haven't. I had the vitamin K shot when I was born but that was it. Never anything more. That's just how my mum brought me and my siblings up as her mother had brought her and her siblings up. And I think her mother before that. My partner on the other hand has had most of his childhood vaccinations just like all of his siblings and all the other children in his family. I would have liked to have carried on the no vaccination tradition if you like. But he strongly wants our child to have them all. And seeing as it is both of our choices it's a subject that we've rowed about in the past. Can anyone let me know their views on whether vaccinations should be administered of not?

OP I hope you're a troll, or a fucking DM journalist.
If you don't vaccinate your child you risk the illness, death and serious disability.
By not being vaccinated yourself you risk congenital rubella, which can cause serious malformations.
You probably didn't catch illnesses yourself as the people around you were vaccinated, you were never exposed ie herd immunity.
IMHO not vaccinating your child is neglect.

specialsubject · 17/03/2017 12:48

there is a risk with vaccination, nothing is totally safe and your child is going to die one day. If your child has a condition that means it is too risky to vaccinate it, be bloody grateful for herd immunity.

Vaccination carries a much lower risk than that presented by the diseases concerned. BTW TB is now fairly rife in London, just one example.

there is no need for a smallpox jab because there is no longer any smallpox. Now, how did that happen?

you want to risk no vaccination - your call. But your kid is growing up in a crowded country with diseases about. You may want to assess what is best for it.

MyBreadIsEggy · 17/03/2017 12:48

PlanetPluto that video is hilarious!
"Even if a vaccine did cause autism....WHICH IT FUCKING DOESNT!!!...." Grin

ohidoliketobe · 17/03/2017 13:00

Really hope this is fake because I despair that people actually believe stuff like this.

Yeah everyone's entitled to their own opinion etc. But your views are dangerous and could kill your child or other people who are immuno-compromised. I think not vaccinating is twattish behaviour.

Oly5 · 17/03/2017 13:08

I hope this is fake top. The idea that somebody would willingly inflict preventable, horrific diseases on their child is beyond me.
OP, look at what these diseases DO to children

BertrandRussell · 17/03/2017 13:10

"99percentchocolate the issue is that giving a single MMR vaccine fundamentally was never going to protect you from all 3 illnesses. What I struggle with is the fact that as a child it was common knowledge that you couldnt get both measles and mumps at the same time. So giving the MMR as a single vaccine was never going to protect you. The fact that doctors thought that it would was really rather worrying."

That really is proper bollocks.

JamDonutsRule · 17/03/2017 13:12

What's to be will be. And I believe that no amount of vaccinations will prevent what life has planned for you.

"A fellow was stuck on his rooftop in a flood. He was praying to God for help.
Soon a man in a rowboat came by and the fellow shouted to the man on the roof, "Jump in, I can save you."
The stranded fellow shouted back, "No, it's OK, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me."
So the rowboat went on.
Then a motorboat came by. "The fellow in the motorboat shouted, "Jump in, I can save you."
To this the stranded man said, "No thanks, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith."
So the motorboat went on.
Then a helicopter came by and the pilot shouted down, "Grab this rope and I will lift you to safety."
To this the stranded man again replied, "No thanks, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith."
So the helicopter reluctantly flew away.
Soon the water rose above the rooftop and the man drowned. He went to Heaven. He finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, "I had faith in you but you didn't save me, you let me drown. I don't understand why!"
To this God replied, "I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?"

Some people really shouldn't be allowed out alone, should they?

Upyourdaisy · 17/03/2017 13:17

What JamDonutsRule said. This should really resonate with you op

FusionChefGeoff · 17/03/2017 13:18

Yes you should

you keep saying she's a loon for a decision she and many other people have made? why don't you grow up and answer it without abusing her?

she asked a question not for you to abuse her, a simple yes I would do it because... then say your point no need to call her names she retaliated for what was said about her family? theirs no need for it! if you want someone to do something you don't abuse them do you?

Upyourdaisy · 17/03/2017 13:51

Quick name change op??

BertrandRussell · 17/03/2017 13:52

Some people make the decision not to vaccinate for sound medical reasons. Some make it because they have been misinformed by charlatans. And some make it because they are ill educated dangerous loons. There is not a 4th category.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/03/2017 13:54

There's a statue of Jenner , the inventor of vaccination, in pride of place in Gloucester Cathedral. He was a Christian.

Don't be afraid of a miniscule chance of an adverse reaction, and thereby leave your children exposed to significant real risk and pain. I'm 56, mercifully young enough for the polio sugarlump, but really would have much preferred not to suffer measles, chickenpox, whooping cough and mumps.

user1489747084 · 17/03/2017 13:55

if you want someone to do the right thing (in your eyes) you don't call her names do you???

BertrandRussell · 17/03/2017 13:56

A straightforward question would have got a straightforward answer.

A question based on the OP wanting to "keep her family tradition" going got the answers it deserved. Particularly when followed up by ill informed comments like "how can you treat a disease that isn't there" and talking about "a generation deformed by vaccination".

user1489747084 · 17/03/2017 14:02

yes that is a fair point, I personally think tradition is a wrong word for her to use, if she used maybe "my family have always done it and not been hurt" something like that and the "how can you treat a disease that isn't there" I don't know about that? and yes their was a generation by the vaccination that caused deformity, not recently but it still can happen. all im saying is maybe if she hasn't been taught much about it and her family hasn't gave her the vaccinations you should be their and say I think you should because of... and make a valid point not call her names

user1489747084 · 17/03/2017 14:03

and no its not a name change at all as you can see I made a comment earlier on when it first started?

BertrandRussell · 17/03/2017 14:05

"and yes their was a generation by the vaccination that caused deformity,"

Tell me about this?

Lunalovepud · 17/03/2017 14:07

First thread you have commented on too user1489747084... What a coincidence.

user1489747084 · 17/03/2017 14:09

yes in japan they have banded MMR because it caused around 1.3million deformities, soon realising it they had to change it but I believe japan have still got it banned
