For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and more detailed information here

Jilly - hello. I think this could be the perfect compliment to your biking (v impressive). It has really helped to organise and motivate me with the F&V consumption.

Overrun, tatties and Avi have some great veg based recipes too, which have helped me come to terms with the idea of the odd meat free meal.

Tatties · 05/03/2007 21:31

Evening all I will post properly later, I am too worked up about what I am watching on telly atm to concentrate

I am yours to command Franny and gave her some ideas, I hope
I have had yet another bloody migraine. So my fruit and veg consumption is completely down, partly due to the sickness, and partly due to being unconscious all afternoon, trying to get rid of it I really must start a thread about this, and go back to the gp.

FrannyandZooey · 06/03/2007 19:23

Oh crikey Overrun, I wish I could help Can't offer advice but send lots of sympathy and yes please do go back to the doctor

Overrun · 06/03/2007 19:44

this will work

StrangeTown · 06/03/2007 20:42

Oh Overrun - hope it doesn't last much longer. It sounds awful, being at the mercy of these.

Tatties · 06/03/2007 21:02

Oh dear Overrun

Greensleeves your breakfast sounds divine

I have had a fruit-tastic day: prune juice, loads of grapes, 2 satsumas, a banana, a plum, a medjool date, raisins... and for dinner I made a ratatouille-type sauce to go with cous cous (inspired by food we had at Ikea ) It was yummy, it had onion, garlic, mushrooms, tomatoes, red pepper, carrot, lentilles vertes, sweetcorn and green beans!

I have had sunflower seeds and cashew nuts too but they don't count do they?

Overrun · 06/03/2007 22:07

I meant to say Greeny, your breakfast did sound nice. What do you mean by "raw" oats though. Do you mean porrige oats?

Jillyadoodledoo · 06/03/2007 23:09

Evening all.
I had porridge for breakfast, but for lunch I had something similar to you Tatties, a kind of ratatouille with cous-cous + salad (+ pesto). For dinner had stew with dumplings with sprouts, courgette and swede.
I also had an apple, some melon and some raspberries.
DOne quite well today I thought - then I fell asleep on the sofa when DH took DD to bed and have only just woken up!
Overrun - I hope you get your migraines sorted.
See you all tomorrow.

FrannyandZooey · 07/03/2007 07:54

Jilly, Tatties, yay, good to hear you both had good days.

I think Greeny just means "oats", but raw sounds so much more virtuous

for breakfast I have had raw oats, raw soya milk, raw raisins, raw apple, raw pear, raw sunflower seeds and raw pumpkin seeds

oh and a cup of raw tea

Hello there, can I join in? I've only posted a couple of times, but am getting a bit braver.... it's all so inspiring.. and I'm going shopping this arvo, so I can get prepped!

I think I hate fruit, but I have to share with DS (so he doesn't burst with fermented fruit) and actually it's not bad.. but I'm more of a veggie lover (there, my secret's out) Bad start today though, nothing in the house so just a bowl of cheerios (kept for special snacks for DS obviously).

I walk the pram up and down hill for 25 mins 4x a week to and from work, but end up doing nothing on the other days to speak of, unless DH pushes me. Oh, and I@m leaving for a 100km trek through a bit of the Sahara in 10 days. Why did I say yes to that then?

Overrun · 07/03/2007 10:32

Blimey, Jackaroo, it sounds like you have the exercise bit covered any way Welcome.

Blueberry cereal for breakfast and a banana so far. We will see how the day shapes up

Jackaroo · 07/03/2007 10:46

My hope is that when I return I don't need to do anything for the next 3 months or so

That actually sounds nice overrun - I didn't know fruit in cereal boxes count, I'll get some today...

I'm quite reassured by how everyone seems to be down with something, or just recovering, I feel as if we've had some sort of bug ever since Christmas, I was starting to worry that a messy house really was a bad mother thing, and it's my fault we're all constantly lurgified.
