Shameful thread with an embarrassing subject and TMI

Ok here goes (have changed name for obvious reasons. Last night I found a small lump just above my clitoris, its like a little spot. I am now paranoid that I have warts I havent been unfaithful to dp and i wouldnt imagine he has so how has this come about. could it just be a spot, do you get them down there? or do genital warts ever come back (i had them about 13 years ago after bf at the time kindly slept with another girl whilst we were on holiday).

It could just be a little spot, like an infected hair follicle, or collection of fluid from a blocked duct. Is it painful at all? These are more probable but it could also be a wart, they can reactivate.
Does it look warty in appearance, ie quite a corrugated , or feathery surface?

I believe genital warts can come back at any time, yes, because the HPV lies dormant in your system and can reactivate itself. I would imagine as with other viruses that this would be more likely if you are tired and run down? I will try to find links for you though as I am not absolutely 100% on this.

Not sure what you are describing is a wart, anyway, but I think it could be possible?

I had forgotten this - have been with the same partner for so long that I'd forgotten that once you have HPV you can pass it on in theory even if warts are not visible or not present.

Does the spot look cauliflowery? or smooth?

Firstly, if it hurts at all, then it's not a wart, it's a spot or ingrown hair.

Secondly, there is a very very easy way to test for a wart - you take a cotton swab, dip it in white vinegar (well, any kind probably?) and then dab it on the spot. If it is a wart, the spot will turn a weird pasty white - I've seen this effect in action, and it's really quite startling and distinct.

I lived with someone who had HPV, and had unprotected sex with him, before he realised he had it. I never caught them, as far as I know, but have had to educate myself about what the warts are like, in case they ever come up. From what I know, this means I might be carrying the virus, and may have given it to later sexual partners. Did warn everyone involved, though. HPV is endemic amoung sexually active people these days, from what I know.
