Fruit and veg shocker!

Today's BBC re five portions of fruit and veg a day:

In the UK, only about one in three people eats enough.

Really? Then what on earth are people eating? If they can't manage 5 a day after all these years of campaigning, there's no hope of the general population achieving the now desirable 10 a day. Makes me despair...

I try to eat some at each meal. Today banana at breakfast, then. Yoghurt with blueberries, lunch chicken with avocado sandwich, plum afterwards, snack an apple then dinner fish pie with peas served with courgette and peppers. Fell off the wagon with a magnum as a treat.

It's such an effort though trying to not eat biscuits.

Well I doubt the DC are getting 2 or 3 of their 5 a day from school dinners from what I saw last time. After school club have toast no fruit.
And if you eat out then its often meat / fish plus potatoes / rice / pasta. If you actually want veg or salad (not just a garnish) you have to order it as an extra.

If it's 80g per portion, then huge apples still count as one portion? That is what is not clear.

If I cook a dish for 2 that uses a large onion, 250g mushrooms, a 400g tin of tomatoes, and is served with French beans and broccoli, then that's five?
