Anyone else had it and for how long? I'm now on day 23 and still not right.
Mine started just as a sore throat and tight chest. In bed for two days, eventually started feeling better but it was like one step forward, two back. I was sore from coughing and gasping for breath. Last Thursday finally started feeling vaguely human again but still get a spluttery coughing fit and feel worse in bed. I'm soooooo tired and can hardly climb the stairs. Prior to this I was running 5k twice a week, and doing 3 classes in gym as well as walking everywhere.

I've been poorly since New Year's Day, 2 lots of antibiotics and still bad.

Had chest x ray this morning and took sputum sample in.

Sick of feeling so sick

FurryGiraffe · 21/02/2017 16:48

DS2 has had the cough on and off since mid November. It gets a bit better then he gets another sniffle and it starts again. He's 9 months. After 3 visits GP prescribed an inhaler which did very little- in fairness she said it probably wouldn't. Sleep is a distant memory...

pieceofpurplesky · 21/02/2017 17:32

And getting an appointment at the doctors is another story!

picklemepopcorn · 21/02/2017 17:40

So random stomach cramps is part of it? So tired... Need a rest from having a rest.

picklemepopcorn · 21/02/2017 17:42

Can't work out what to eat, mouth tastes disgusting, I'm quite hungry, but then get stomach ache and don't fancy anything.

WashBasketsAreUs · 21/02/2017 19:32

Yep very difficult to find things I can eat. Anything with cheese is foul, most things tastes wrong. Cheese straws and chocolate is ok so far.

measles64 · 21/02/2017 19:39

stomach ache sounds like glands. Hubby has just eaten a pheasant casserole he could not even taste it.

EggysMom · 21/02/2017 21:37

I craved fruit during the worst of it

FairNotFair · 21/02/2017 22:00

Yes, it's ruined my palate. My favourite Yorkshire Tea tastes rank Sad

whereareyousleep · 21/02/2017 22:07

I've had it too on week 3 now. Mines an awful dry cough once I start can't stop until I'm gagging or sick. Worse at night or when I eat or when I talk or when I take a deep breath....everything really. It's more in my throats though not on my chest had high temp/headaches and nausea for first 3 days just cough since constantly. Keep getting tutted at by customers and told to go home have to keep telling them I don't get paid if I don't go to work which is why everything gets spread around.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 21/02/2017 22:32

Day 18 here, although I'm convinced it's the thing I got at Mew Year re-visiting me. Although I got over the cold in about a week and felt ok, there was an ominous lingering tightness in my chest and that's what's coming out now. It does 't seem to be developing into anything iyswim - still a dry cough that's not shifting anywhere, feeling spaced out and absolutely shattered. Yesterday I started with a weird pain on the front of my face on one side wgen I blow my nose. Synuses maybe. At least I've progressed to waking every two or three hours this week - it's been literally every hour all night long up until this weekend.
Sudofed seems to stop the sneexkng and snots a bit.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 21/02/2017 22:33

Oh and the joy of night sweats [hmm[

shewolfmum · 21/02/2017 23:16

clarithromycin is such a horrid abx...sorry you had to take that. For anyone else thinking about it read the PIL and opt for dosing with liposomal vit c to bowel tolerance. It will do you wonders instead of a possible whole lot of damage...

feettothestars · 22/02/2017 15:14

Ugh I feel depressed reading this! Eight days into the worst, driest most painful cough I've had and absolutely no signs of it getting better at all for me or one year old ds. Sleep is nigh impossible. Anyone got anything that actually helps their cough at night?

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 22/02/2017 15:30

Um Covonia cough sweets helped me get back to sleep in the early stages, when a scratchy throat was waking me up.

picklemepopcorn · 22/02/2017 15:57

I find an ice lolly before bed helps the coughing.
If it's non productive, then a pp said it's ok to use codeine cough syrup, I think.

paganmolloy · 22/02/2017 17:22

And sore teeth in the inside, if that makes any sense. Like they are infected deep within my gums. Better today but still no sense of taste.

I made local honey and lemon drinks, even if the drink goes cold at night it seems to soothe and stop the coughing fits, if I woke up coughing a few sips and it eased off again.

measles64 · 22/02/2017 17:26

Oh I also put Vicks on my chest at night.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 22/02/2017 18:11

Keel forgetting about Vicks. I've been sleeping with a cushion clutched to my chest, seems to avoid that 'exposed' feeling. I do wake up in a sweat though so it's a matter of balance.

shewolfroar · 22/02/2017 20:47

yes mega dose vit c - honestly it really helps - look up here for whooping cough protocol and follow:

drsuzanne.net/2015/04/the-vitamin-c-treatment-of-whooping-cough-suzanne-humphries-md/

really helps with coughing bouts - experienced it :)

pieceofpurplesky · 24/02/2017 14:13

Just been back to doctors and he has given me some antibiotics that are not often used today as he thinks the virus is immune!

YourHandInMyHand · 24/02/2017 14:37

I have this too! I was at doctors yesterday for blood test results and she's given me some penicillin to try and shift it. I've never felt so tired and drained, and for so long. It's really wiped me out!

I hope the ABs work but looks like they might not. Hmm

pieceofpurplesky · 24/02/2017 15:32

My second lot

Silver17 · 25/02/2017 08:48

I started with really aching limbs, backache, nausea.then developed cough that has now subsided but was not as bad as some, though my brother is still suffering after six weeks.doc says his chest clear! It's the awful weakness and fatigue that is the problem. Seems it can take several weeks to recover.
