How much does it cost for an eye test in England?

We get them free is Scotland and one of my colleagues has just submitted an expenses claim for hers.
It was £60!! surely they aren't that much? It was £40 for a consult and £20 for an Optomap retinal exam.

Maybe she also had a contact lense consultation? I remember these costing a huge amount. I regularly paid about 40 pounds for check ups when living in England 5 years ago.

£10 at Optical Express last Sunday and free if you bought glasses. Half price offer I think.
It was a full test too - puffer test, peripheral vision etc
