right, his case for a heart was re-presented to the surgons last week, as he has been waiting a long time, and in reality he is getting worse again. so from now on, when a matching heart comes up he should be offered it first above anyone else.

he has to be reassessed for transplant at the end of march, and they also upping one of his meds (carvidolil) to ease some pressure on his heart and give it a bit more ooophm!

She's had her transplant and has been discharged already

She only waited a matter of weeks. Its why I am just gobsmacked at how long Peter has waited.

That seems positive misdee. But scary all at the same time I suppose.

Fingers crossed for you both.

Every time I go away I hope that i come back to find he has had his transplant and is recovering.

I have an uncle who had the 3rd ever transplant in Ireland in 1989. Still going strong. Has since had a new kidney too!

nope. They couldnt pinpoint the virus that caused the damage. But she was only in for 5 weeks, tops, before the transplant happened.

I was pondering whether or not to mention, because of that, misdee.

she must have been really bad between falling ill abnd getting a transplant. what was her first name, she may be on the ww.thetransplantlog.com

Maybe by Easter? Every time I see these threads I hope for a Christmas, Valentines Da or whatever heart. Two years is long. I want the 'Home from visiting after the op' thread too!

Report
misdee · 27/02/2007 20:44

a hell of a lot has happened in the two years, dd3 being born is one of them, peter has lost half a dozen hospital friends, seen many go through transplant, a couple make sull recoveries without needing transplant, we lost a few online friends as well

but he is still here. he is made of strong stuff, he isnt ready to give up yet.

Oh that sounds good.

Can I ask how often does hearts become available (not necessarily to suit, but in general)?

i feel like such a freaky weirdo for sitting here hoping that someone with no family or friends to miss him, who was just about to commit suicide anyway, comes off his motorbike tonight and is painlessly and instantly but fatally injured..?

Report
madmarchhare · 27/02/2007 21:00

I cant imagine how it must be, but yes, both and about been busy.

So when you get a call, what is it that makes it not go ahead? (hope you dont mind me asking)

Well, I know a load more folk added their name to the list after your youtube thing last week. I sent it to blardy everyone lol!

misdee · 27/02/2007 21:04

one time, Peters blood was way way too thin and he would have haemorraged on the operating table if they went ahead.

it can be the condition of the patient, condition of the heart that stops it going ahead. nothing is set untill all the tsts on the patient and the donor organ are complete and ok-ed.

Aitch, nah carry on, not weird/freaky/insane at all. if anyone steps in front of my car then i hope they have a donor card or are registered.
