I have got a rash on one arm/hand. It's like tiny little spots of blood under the skin. I have seen my son get it on his face after vomiting and i believe the menigitus rash is something like this. Help...

Do the glass test

JJ · 23/06/2004 17:48

Does it go away when you press a clear glass on it? If it doesn't, then you do need to go to the emergency room straight away.

Sorry!

also: how are you feeling?

You can also get viral rashes that sound pretty much like this. If it doesn't fade under pressure (the glass test) then it is probably a harmless viral rash.

The meningitis rash comes on with the illness (usually last thing to develop). So in other words you feel awful.

Always worth getting this type of rash checked out though as it can indicate anaemia etc.

The rash seems to have faded today, i don't feel particularly unwell although i did go to the doc last week because i have felt tired and headachey for ages. I have been tested a year or so ago for anemia and was o.k so what could have caused it?-

doziduck--if you continue to have an "unwell" period again w/ fatigue and headaches and also get that rash again (or one like it) do see the doctor. The only reason I say this is because I went through a whole summer when I was constantly tired and had a headache every single day, and one thing my doctor was concerned about was lupus. . .so they asked repeatedly if I'd had any rashes. Now, lupus rashes (as I understand it) usually appear on the face (which yours didn't!) and they are called "butterfly rashes" which I don't quite understand, but I gather it has some thing to do with their having a symmetrical appearance? Anyway, the last thing I want to do is alarm you because I really DON'T think you have lupus, but I felt I'd be irresponsible not to mention this as the very SLIGHTEST possibility. And the only reason I thought about it is because it jogged my memory of that very ill summer I had. (I didn't have lupus after all, but glandular fever.)
