Chlamydia - where has it can't from?

ForeverLivingMyArse · 02/02/2017 18:15

Last week I had a medical termination and as part of the procedure they test for STI and I was swabbed for chlamydia. I got a Cahill today too say I tested positive for chlamydia.

Dh and I have been together 12 years, no other sexual partners in this time. I was last tested 3 years ago when pregnant and was clear.

I have not cheated and I am 100% sure he hasn't. Not a doubt is in my mind about that. He works, eats and sleeps and thats about it!

Neither of us have had any symptoms, nothing.

I've got a line to get the anti b for both of us but I'm puzzled as to where it's came from.

Everything I read says sexually transmitted only.

The nursery mentioned anal chlamydia that might have transferred to my vagina?

Any ideas?

So I can't blame the hot tub?

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt here. It sounds like a mix up to me. Good luck OP. And it's good to have faith in your partner. I'm sure there's an explanation and await your update x

PenguinsandPebbles · 02/02/2017 21:57

Ok so yes he may have or the OP may have cheated. But the OP is quite sure she didn't accidentally fall on a penis and is quite sure her husband/partner didn't accidently fall into a vagina.

So for a minute let's believe her.

And whilst we don't know for sure who on an Internet forum is from a medical background or not

Two people who are for all intensive purposes from a medical background (I've no reason to doubt them) and now a third are saying It is very possible to get a false positive from a chalymida test.

OP both of you need to be retested so your minds are put at rest, but i suspect it's a false positive.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this at what is such a difficult time x Flowers

esk1mo · 02/02/2017 21:58

sorry but unless OP has got chlamydia of the eye (from a foam party) then wiped her eye THEN with unwashed hands, put her fingers inside her vagina, i really doubt that
is how she got chlamydia. you are really clutching at straws with that.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 02/02/2017 22:02

I think it's actually nice that someone trusts their partner this much!! So many cynics about. Chances are they've mixed up the results, happened to me with bloods before but they realised at the hospital. Was not pleased with having them redone as I was quite poorly! I'm sure you'll get an answer shortly anyway

PenguinsandPebbles · 02/02/2017 22:02

There is a 5-10% chance of a false positive result

Until a second test is done if she is confident no cheating has happened then it is highly possible it was a false positive

ForeverLivingMyArse · 02/02/2017 22:08

Thanks guys. By all rights he should be going crazy at me. I'm the one with the result and the opportunity to cheat but he's explicitly stating he knows I wouldn't and I know he hasn't. So we'll just take the next logical step and retest me, test him and take it from there.

I'm on your side OP!
I actually did catch chlamydia from a cheating partner in my youth, it if I was to test positive tomorrow I would still 100% know that my DH hadn't cheated and there must be an alternative explanation.
I found out I had it after getting a 'mystery' eye infection. If it can go from vag to eye then I'm sure it can travel the other way too.

PetalMettle · 02/02/2017 22:15

Wow 5-10% is really high.
Sorry about the termination OP, that's an awful thing to have to deal with

Pearlmum1 · 02/02/2017 22:16

If you don't want to wait too long for the result there are tests from pharmacies/boots that give you really quick results. Unless the gum clinic tests are the same day? I'm inpatient and would just want to confirm it was a false positive. How lovely to trust your partner like that, it must be a huge peace of mind to feel that way (as you can tell I do not 100% trust mine!) Good luck with getting to the bottom of this.

Pearlmum1 · 02/02/2017 22:16

Impatient not inpatient!

SherlockPotter · 02/02/2017 22:17

You don't get symptoms with chlamydia usually

Mermaidinthesea · 02/02/2017 22:19

On one of the medical sites:

Why is testing for Chlamydia important?

"Chlamydia can lie dormant for many years without causing symptoms; this increases the chances of it being spread to others, as the carrier is unaware.
Because of this, if Chlamydia is diagnosed in someone who is in a longstanding relationship, it does not necessarily mean that either partner has been unfaithful."

Evening all. OP has got some good advice here. However, just a little reminder that this is General Health, not AIBU.

Here are our talk guidelines so please do have a read. We're here to make parents' lives easier, after all.... peace and love.

bummymummy77 · 02/02/2017 22:24

Sorry I thought I read you'd had two texts.

What's a medical termination? Is that the pills?

Delatron · 02/02/2017 22:25

I did read it could lie dormant for years and flare up? I guess like herpes?

Not sure that when it is dormant it would show up as negative in a test though?

Also, can your body clear it by itself? Show a negative result and then you are reinfected when it becomes active again in your long term partner?

bummymummy77 · 02/02/2017 22:25

Two tests! Stupid phone, sorry.

FourToTheFloor · 02/02/2017 22:28

Just piling in to to say good luck OP. Please come back and tell us the test was negative to stick it to the LTB brigade so I can be happy you know your dh better than strangers on the Internet Smile

ForeverLivingMyArse · 02/02/2017 22:51

yeah it's the pills, one the first day then back for the second lot the next day. I was able to go home for it to pass as I was early on.

OP posts:
bummymummy77 · 02/02/2017 22:57

Oh I was thinking maybe if it was the other type then that could have been where it came from.

This stress on top of that must be horrible. Flowers

Notsleepingeveragain · 03/02/2017 05:43

So OP comes on for health advice and strangers with chip on shoulder get angry she trusts her husband. Great support forum this.

FallenSky · 03/02/2017 07:18

Oh I see what she was probably getting at with the anal thing now. You've never had an anal swab before, I presume? So she could be saying you've had it for a long time in your anus and you've managed to transfer the infection from your anus to your vagina via improper wiping or something. Hence why it was negative on your last vaginal swab. That's my understanding anyway. Not sure how likely that would be after so long though.

Hopefully both of your tests will come back negative and it turns out there was some mix up at the clinic.

Northernlurker · 03/02/2017 07:19

Health advice about a std and actually I think it was the op who got angry because posters didn't trust her husband. What with it being a sexually transmitted disease and all.

leghoul · 03/02/2017 07:25

I've got it!

You have cuddled a koala. Koalas get raging terrible chlamydia.

Or, you've had it for some time and your eye symptoms are actually Reiter's syndrome & you got infected from somewhere other than koala.

ForeverLivingMyArse · 03/02/2017 07:25

That's interesting Fallen, not sure if possible after all this time. Retesting as soon as we can do will get to the bottom of it soon enough!
