How frequently can we get this v&d virus?

About two weeks ago my whole family got struck down by this horrible gastro virus that's doing the rounds at the mo. First time it happened almost exactly a year ago. Obviously, we don't want to repeat the experience any time soon...but can you at all get re-infected within weeks or a couple of months? I read somewhere that once you have it, it tends to give you immunity for 3-4 months.

Many D&V bugs are caused by noroviruses. And there are lots and lots of those, probably even more that haven't been identified.

Other viruses can also cause them.

Because they're caused by hundreds of different viruses, it's possible to get one and hten immediately pick up another, or even had more than one concurrently.

Be VERY, VERY vigilant about hand-washing. Keep all surfaces as clean as possible and that includes doorknobs/handles, flush levers, taps, etc.

You don't need antibacterial soap, hot soapy water will do or spray with Dettol.

Unfortunately these types of viruses are very contagious.

Thanks expat!! We even had the carpets cleaned in the whole house last week! Cost us a lot of money, but it's worth every penny if we can avoid this horrible plague.

Ds has has d&v twice within the last month. Dh and I also got it the first time but avoided it the second time. Just one of those things unfortunately

It is like the cold virus, lots of variations so hard to build up immunity.

Washing hands is helpful in reducing transmission.
