Could this be flu? But had flu jab

Had flu jab in October. I'm convinced this is a bad cold but never ever felt like this since I had flu which was 13 years ago. I've been pretty much bed ridden struggling to go to the toilet. The onset of symptoms was very sudden. I had a tight chest on Thurs afternoon out of no where and when I coughed it really hurt. Now we're ok Sunday I'm in so much pain. Usual blocked nose, very painful when I cough in throat and chest. Achy back and worst of all is the fever and the sweating absolutely drenched last night. Thurs night I had the shivers and fever start and now on Sunday I'm really struggling. Is it like a mild flu as I've had the jab? Or just a bad cold. Struggling. Two small kids and a SAHM need to get better for tomorrow so DH can go to work

It went all round the family here and we are talking weeks to recover. Kids were really unwell and the littlest is coughing again as this bug lingers and keeps reigniting. So fed up and exhausted.

On the bright side I've lost 6 lbs and most of January, so it's not all bad!

Don't mean to panic you, just want to share with you my experience.
I had very severe symptoms of 'flu'. I couldn't get out of bed for the toilet, had severe headache, aches, sore throats and v high fever. 41C.
Doctor wouldn't come to house so next day my dad helped me to GP and chest was 'clear'. I collapsed and passed out in bathroom at home that night with severe pain in my shoulder but went back to bed because it was only 'flu'. GP again following day who said chest was clear and flu.
Next day was a bank holiday and I phoned 111 as I started vomiting couldn't breath in because of severe pain in shoulder and was rushed to A&E after seeing OOH GP. I had severe sepsis caused by pneumonia.
It sounds similar to you. Just because chest is clear doesn't mean it is always apparently. Even the A&E docs couldn't hear anything and were shocked at the x ray. They had students in to explain that the pneumonia was far gone and couldn't be heard. There was a word for it but can't remember what. If you are really worried please go to A&E. only you will be able to tell if you think it's flu or if you feel there is something really wrong.

Hubble, OP doesn't think it was a doctor she saw, and wasn't overly confident in them.

When I feel that terrible I do insist on being seen. When I get severe coughs I am prone to fractured ribs and difficulty breathing, yet try getting a doctor to come out. It is all but impossible so I have to go to them.

Twopeapods that sounds horrible!!! I can't believe it was missed. I've finally made it downstairs and have eaten. So I think today's rest has made a difference. My DH can't get the morning off work so I will have to look after DCs one at school he will take the other is 2! I am so worried she will get poorly from spending the morning with me

Just look after yourself Greta. And make an emergency appointment tomorrow if you still feel rough. Read up on the symptoms of sepsis. And if needs be get the doc to check oxygen level and BP and heart rate. If my GPS had done this my sepsis might have been picked up quicker. I really hope you feel better tomorrow.
I think they might have said my chest compacted, but I might be wrong.

Yes the clinician did check my oxygen levels with the thing on my finger and my blood pressure which was all fine. Maybe she was more thorough that I remember I did feel a bit delirious and was shaking. All symptoms of a flu like illness she said

I think I've broken the fever not as sweaty as last few days. Sadly no one can help look after my 2 year old. DH is taking eldest to school and then will come home early from work. I don't feel strong. I feel weak. I just looked at myself in the mirror and I have dry skin and black bags under my eyes. I'm feeling sorry for myself.

I've had a flu-like lurgy for just over a week. I keep expecting to feel better tomorrow and planning to do all sorts, including going back to the gym but it just hasn't been possible. I have no appetite and a horrible hacking cough. I feel desperately tired.

I'm so tired of it.

Olympiathequeen · 30/01/2017 17:55

Just take as much time to rest and get better as you can. It has the habit of reigniting if you are not fully recovered.

Greta84 · 30/01/2017 18:27

DH came back early afternoon and did school run for me. But he has work to do so I've just done kids tea. Standing up for 40 mins has totally knocked me out again. Feel so useless. Wondering if it's possible to hire help for a couple of days so I can just rest!

Draft in anyone you can and rest. We've found that pushing yourself just drags it on longer and makes it more difficult to recover.

Maybe friends can take the kids to school?

I did online shopping and just got ready meals and no cook options.

Stay in bed as much as you can. Taking night nurse or nytal helped at least get some sleep. Drink plenty of fluids. Leave the cleaning and maybe DH can sort the washing up? Or paper plates that you just throw away?

GrimmFairy85 · 31/01/2017 11:05

Thanks had a mum do school run today for me. DH trying to get back in time to collect. DH picked up jackets for tea tonight & he's done all dishes

GrimmFairy85 · 31/01/2017 11:06

How are you feeling now? Has your fever stayed away?
Good suggestions on here for ready meals and paper plates. Are you able to breath a bitter?

Greta84 · 31/01/2017 11:32

I am still exhausted in bed right now going to nap. Dizzy when standing. Have got help for 2 year old. Temp gone. I don't need to cough often but when I do it's very deep and chesty and painful. Feels like mucus is deep down not budging. Dizziness and feeling of heaviness is hard to handle. When I'm sitting or laying down feel ok when I walk or move feel very tired

Twopeapods · 31/01/2017 11:44

It's a good thing the fever has gone. Hopefully you will start to gain strength. But don't worry about going to the doctors again if your worried. Never get shrugged away.

Olympiathequeen · 31/01/2017 20:57

Oh yes, dizzyness and exhaustion. I have ongoing nausea too.

Had it 4 weeks now and tried to do some house jobs today and found myself having to sit down every half hour and breathless to boot. Feels so ridiculous for just a cold.

If you can't shift the mucus deep in your lungs I'd be wary of developing a bacterial chest infection and pneumonia. The coughing is hideous but I did reassure myself it was clearing my lungs and now my chest feels inflamed and tickly but nothing much coming up. So don't try to repress the cough.

Greta84 · 01/02/2017 08:25

The thing is I don't feel a need to cough a lot but when I do it's really painful and there is a lot 'going on' in my chest mucus wise. Olympia the queen I've read you can get worse coughs with a cold than a flu. Maybe you had flu rather than a cold. I spoke to a friend who is a GP said flu is very sudden and usually starts with a temperature over 38 for an adult
