liver enzymes? what does this mean

dh just got his report back for his yearly works medical which says that his liver enzymes are higher than last year with no apparent cause??????

he isn't much of a drinker

he is a bit overweight. he stopped smoking 2 years ago and piled it on

Dear cheeryface.There can be many reasons for raised LFTs (liver function tests),not just alcohol.Is he on any regulaar medications?Would suggest he goes to GP just to get em checked out.FWIW if it was a huge raise,or they were worried I am sure his occy health would have referred him on.HTH,wrinkly

cheeryface, there is a condition which has only fairly recently been recognised called fatty liver (sometimes known as NASH), in which changes can be seen which are similar to those caused by alcohol, so it's yet another reason for people to keep an eye on their weight
