Heavy periods, frequent periods (sorry if tmi)

Anybody have a similar experience? I have had regular, heavy periods since I had a miscarriage a couple of years ago. I finished my period last week and now have started bleeding again.
Is there anybody out there who has had something similar? Did you have any treatment? Did it work? I have a GP appointment later today, but just want to hear if anybody else has been through this.
I'm worrying because a friend of mine had frequent periods and ended up having a hysterectomy. As you can imagine, I'm hoping I can avoid going down that route.

hi sorry to hear you're going through the mill at the moment.

there are other treatments now available, you don't necessarily have to have a hysterectomy. one is called endometrial ablation, this is where the endometrial lining (womb lining) is lessenedl, i'm not sure how but i just wanted you to know there are other treatments available.

I find myself mentally counting ahead whenever anything like holidays, a night out or something I don't want to be 'on' for crops up cos it can be so difficult and spoils everything.

I'm on a waiting list for, well it's called Hydro ThermAblator on the paperwork but I guess it might be the same as fransmom mentions.

As I understand it they fill the uterus with hot saline and it burns ('cooks' was the alaming word the gynae used) the lining.

This destroys the lining either significantly or totally and you either get lighter periods or none at all. This is not suitable though for women who may wish to have more babies.

I am such a wimp I am thinking of backing out. It sounds awful, but then again so are really heavy periods every couple of weeks.
