Confusion with Medised dosage.

We havent had good results from this so far but I'm wondering now if its because I havent given enough.
On the dosage instructions it says
"half to one 5ml spoon for 3m-1yr"

I checked the paracetamol dosage in it and it is exactly the same as calpol but obviously calpol only says give 2.5ml.

Ds is 6m now so can I give him a 5ml dose of Medised or is it 2.5ml?

I would say you can give him either 2.5 or 5mls depending on how poorly he is. Ihave given dd2 5mls at under a year old.

I would have understood that to mean he could have either 2.5mls, OR 5mls. If he is ill and the 2.5ml dose isn't working then give him 5mls

StrawberrySnowflakes · 19/02/2007 12:04

i think 5ml is a lot for so young, dd is almost 4 and she still only gets 5ml when shes poorly. but then if you LO is ill, maybe the higher dose would help?

slalomsuki · 19/02/2007 12:05

I've had similar debates with my doc who prescribes the 2.5ml amount and when I pick up the prescription the label already on the bottle by the manufacturer says the higher amount and the pharmacist has to stick another label over it.

I always start with the lower amount then if it doesn't work it gives me the option to up the dose later.

Also from 6months you can use baby nurofen inbetween paracetamol doses to get the temp down if paracetamol alone doesn't work.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 19/02/2007 12:05

sorry read that wrong, was thinking 5-10ml(as thats what dd is allowed), 5 ml would be fine at his age if you think 2.5 isnt adequate.

NbgsYellowFeathers · 19/02/2007 12:48

Well he is teething and has chicken pox, so I think a 5ml dose will be ok.
Hopefully it will work.

Thank you.

Thanks Strawberry.
I could kick myself now for not giving him the 5ml.
He has Broncilitis not so long back too an I didnt bother then either.

Fingers crossed it will work.

hope so and dont beat yourself up, it one of those things that you say you'd do differently when you look back, but you did what you thought best at the time..like they say retrospect is a wonderful thing..gives you a better knowledge of expreience for another time now!
