Is it possible to develop reflux rather than be born with it?

We just can't figure out what is bothering ds2. In the last month (he's 4mo) he often screams when laid down, and is obviously much happier when held upright. He also struggles to feed, pulling on and off the boob (ouch). He had a cold and I thought it might be earache, but the GP has had a look and said his ears are fine. In the last few days almost every time he burps he grimaces or even wails, then follows through with a very large possett. Not that I'm sure what the difference is between a possett and a vomit, but I assume that a vomit includes a retch, which ds2 doesn't seem to do. Otherwise I'd call the large possett a small vomit. Sometimes the stuff jumps over his bib or his shoulder - not exactly projectile, but neither does it just dribble out.

Is this mild reflux? I've read that you don't always get utter misery and projectile vomitting with reflux.

It could be reflux..DD1 wasnt diagnosed until around 3.5mths as she had a cough cold etc She was just sick constantly, not projectile like DD2 but just constant bits. She also screamed in agony arched her back hated lying down etc. Tried infant gaviscon which helped for a day or so but that was it, she was put on a refluxformula. It ma be worth trup to gp to see about what can use when bf..you can use infant gaviscon but best got prescription as it is £4 odd a box over the counter[we forgot to order some for dD2 so had ot pay last week]

silent reflux

my nephew was diagnosed with this at a few weeks old, and was prescribed infant gaviscon motillium and domperidone, which really helped.

worth having your DS checked out, can;t do any harm
