What's this rash?

My 8 month old DS developed a pin pick type rash on Thursday which was just on his chect, belly and back. Today it's on his head and face too, although quite faint.
I'm not particularly worried as he's been as happy as larry, although he's had a slight runny nose.
My concern is that we're going to have lunch with a 36week pregnant friend today and I need to know it's not something he'll pass on.
Anyone know a good websites with pictures of rashs etc. I've looked before but haven't been able to find anything helpful.
Many thanks.

could it be explained as heat rash? if not browse through some of these.

My ds was always getting seemingly symptomless rashes that in the early days I would rush to the clinic about, but never came to anything if no other symptoms and just went on their own.

it doesn't look as angry as that heat rash, or anything else on that site.
I just need to see a pic of chicken pox in it's early stages to rule that out.
And can i find one anywhere??? no!

Clear pus is chicken pox I believe.

Ds has folliculitis - there are some good pictures of that on the net. All the spots need to be around a hair follicle. Ignore the acne shaving rash ones.

chicken pox in my children started as one 'queen' spot that looks like a blister and is about the size of a normal pin head (not the sharp end) and then all teh spots come and they are like fluid filled blisters too - it is quite noticeable that they have fluid in and from what you have said I think it is not this.

Are you bfing? If so and you ahev had CP then it would be hard for him to catch it as he will have the immunity from you - goes once you stop though and not guranteed.

mrsbish, when mine had chickenpox it developed over a few hours and looked ike puss filled spots, started with one or two idividual spots then within a few hours had about 50,
so don't think it sounds like that, all mine have had viral rashes as babies which sounds more like what your ds has. Why not try nhs direct they may have more advise, hope that helps.

yes i am still bfing. I agree that it can't really be cpox. He is under the doc for exzema, so maybe it's just a flare up?, although it doesn't look like exzema. It did come up after i gave him some banana, maybe it's an allergy?

People with eczema much more likely to get foliculitis as staph bacteria can get in.

Ds allergic to banana also - but he gets hives, vomits and low blood pressure.
