I think I've broken my wrist! I've got it in a splint, but it hurts like hell!

Hi, I had an accident this morning, I was stood on a piano stool, pulling blankets out of a cupboard, stumbled and missed the stool and fell onto my hand/ used my hand to break the fall. I took 2 brufen and 2 co-codamol straight away. then at the hospital, I had some oral morfien? No idea how to spell these things and in too much pain to care.. Anyway, the nurse practitioner who saw me said the x ray was clear, but it's very hard o tell if this bone is broken on a x ray, especially when it was so swollen. He put it in a splint, with Velcro straps, but it doesn't do much to immobilise the area.
I've taken all the meds I'm allowed and it still really hurts. I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep.
If I can't sleep, is there anything else they could do? Is there a different splint or stronger pain killers? I have 30 mg codine, and my own paracetamol and brufen. Should I go back, or try to hang on for the 2 weeks when I'm due another x ray? I don't like to waist there time, so if you could recommend a splint I could buy even which will keep the thumb area still, that would be great. Thank you

Prop your wrist up on pillows to elevate it and take 400mgs Ibuprofen with 2 paracetamol every six hours. You could try an ice pack too (frozen peas are good). It will feel less painful once the swelling starts going down op.

Thank you, I've done the first two things, but haven't tried the ice/ frozen pees yet.

If you've fallen onto an outstretched hand, you may have incurred an injury to your scaphoid which, I believe, can be difficult to see on an x-ray. No advice ref pain relief sorry Sad
