get it to go away. Do you think your body gets to stage where painkillers just stop working???

I'm in agony, have a broken tooth that im waiting to have fixed, but now the pain has gone into my jaw and i'm sobbing in pain, i have never know pain like it. I just keep walking the floor cos i cant sit still.

sazjaz - no, it honestly didn't hurt. Even the injection didn't hurt. My old dentist made me feel like the needle was going through my brain but my lovely new dentist was so gentle I didn't know she'd done the injection. You feel a bit of poking around and pressure but honestly no pain. They are not in the business of inflicting pain. Once the nerve is gone, no more pain.

You need to make an appointment for a check up, before you sit in the chair talk to the dentist. Tell them exactly how scared you are, ask them how they can make this experience less of an ordeal for you. Tell them you need lots of understanding and when you raise your hand you need them to stop so you can take a break during the treatment.

Sazjaz, honestly, go. Talk to them, get yourself out of this pain.

I cringe now that I made such a fuss before but I was petrified due to imcompent dentist when I was younger.

sazjaz You have to go and have yours done, it will only get worse. I knew as soon as i left the dentist that i could leave it and not go back. Ring your dentist surgery and ask to be refered somewhere that will do the work with sedation. They will sedate you so that you are asleep, then give you the injection to numb your mouth to do the work. Sedation is fantastic. I had 2 carpal tunnel operations last year with sedation and local aneastetic. Unlike a general I was ready to go home within an hour of having the op.

I dont wanna be in this pain forever and i hate the fact that my kids see mummy sob in pain everynight when it gets bad. Unfortunatley I dont have the money til the end of the month to have the treatment done and everyone i know is in the same boat at the moment so i cant even borrow the money if i needed to (we are getting a provident loan, yes I know they are crap but we cant get the money any other way).

In a strange way i'm actually looking forward to having the work done, cos i know it will all be fine after(hopefully).

Incidentally, does anyone know how many fillings they will do in one go?? dentist says i need 6 but can only actually see 2 that need doing, but if it is 6 will he do them all in one go??

Can't you get the dentist to start the course of treatment and get the main one done then not finish it til the end of the month when you've got the money?
I think you don;t have to pay until a course of treatment is finished although I could be wrong.
