What age is she Ruby? Can you give us an idea of what food you would offer her in an average day, and what she actually chooses to eat?

rubyqueen · 17/02/2007 18:26

hi, my daughter is 3 yrs. i give her bread, cereal for breakfast and rice lentils for lunch. dinner she has eggs or pasta.
what ever i try to give her she just tastes it and then does not eat another spoon.
she has reduced a lot in weight.quite worring.

Did she used to eat or has it always been a problem? If it's a recent thing, when did it start? Have you seen a health visitor or doctor?

Sorry for all the questions. It sounds very worrying. How much weight has she lost? Does she have any favourite foods that she will eat, or does she refuse all foods no matter what you give her?

No, thats fine. I did go to the health visitor.she says she is growing so may be she is in a certain phase. But my little one has been troubling to eat food from the time she started walking. She is very moody ,there are very few times when she eats.mostly she does not want to eat. Eg if its pasta she eats 2 to 3 spoons and thinks she is full and stops eating.I just want to know if this is normal or its only my little one.As the health visitor says this is normal and every other kids does this.I could not find a solution till now.

My 8 yr old ds used to eat brilliantly till she hit about 1 1/2 yrs!

Still won't try anything new and only eats really bland food (pasta with no sauce, peanut butter sandwiches, cereal). I try to get her to try something new everyday and she nibbles a corner and then refuses to try any more.

Is a really healthy weight though so my doctor said not to be worried about it (but obviously still drives me mad and makes me feel like I am doing a terrible job as a mother, eats no fruit or veg at all).

hoolagirl · 17/02/2007 20:23

My ds is usually a great eater, but goes through phases that can last a while where he eats hardly anything.
I just give him what I know he will eat and he eventually comes out of it, I don't really know what else to do either, hopefully its just a phase.

Ruby, no advice but lots of sympathy.

My ds, just turned 3, is a terrible eater and has been for a year and a half. He seems pretty healthy and average size too. I just don't understand it.

He's a stubborn little bugger tbh.

FrannyandZooey · 17/02/2007 20:45

Ruby, I know lots of people who have difficulties with their children's eating habits, but if, as you say, she is losing weight (rather than just slipping down the centiles) I personally would be worried. I think toddlers are notorious for being fussy, and growing lots and getting quite skinny, but I think to actually be losing weight is another matter, am I right?

I am sorry I don't know the answer but I hope someone here can help. Do you think it would help to speak to your doctor?

Hi, thanks for all the messages.I will have to go back to the health visitor.Well my little one is 3 and she weighs 12.5.Is that ok for a 3 yr old? I have tried many foods for her but she is very fussy.I am just hoping she will eat properly one day.
