Viagra - Kept Prem Baby alive! - First Baby to have had it!!!!!!(ANGRY)

Watched the news about the prem baby who was given viagra to expand the lungs to enable air flow.

I only saw it briefly as I'v been away but I was under the impression that everyone was stating the baby was the first to have been given the drug Viagra!

In actual fact it was my dd who was the first baby to have been given it, it was a dr from G.A.St.Hospital who thought it may work but it had never been done before and as my baby was so ill and chances of survival were so low they asked if I'd be willing to try it and see if it worked as they use it for people with hart problems. It was a really stressfull time and they gave it to her as a trial.

I was quite upset when I heard, althought I did think well if I hadn't let them experiment on my baby then the prem baby may not have pulled through.

Probably wish I'd gone to the papers with my story but then I'd of put the money back into the hospital.

maybe I sound a bit childish I don't want any glory but if they are saying this baby was the first they're wrong.

If you want to you could still sell your story I suppose...
It must be annoying when your experience goes unrecognised, especially for something as serious as this.

I was surprised to see that story too.

There is a baby being treated in the hospital I work in and I've been making viagra suspension for him for months!

It didn't really occur to me to go to the press as we are a bit reserved but it just feels a bit wrong.

My dd went under the drugs trial like a rat in a cage and someon else gets the glory.

I do have a good mind to call the newspaper, I would put the money back into the SCBU unit as it was them that saved her.

My youngest daughter (10 months) has Sildenafil (Viagra) as she has a congenital heart condition. When she was in hospital she was by no means the only baby on it.

misdee · 16/02/2007 19:59

i read that today as the baby was the youngest to have it.

dh has also had it to help his blood flow.

You have to remember that the press just makes half the stories up anyway, and distorts the other half. Sorry to any journaists but I've been interviewed a couple of times and completely mis-quoted... I mean you can't trust them. Probably best not to contact them, just tell all your friends instead!

Isn't it great news though, that the baby, and other babies before it, were given a shot at life because of this drug, good isn't it, aye

hillary · 16/02/2007 20:06

I know it just gets up my nose my dd was the very first baby to have it, she was hours old! I had to sign forms and everything to say it was at our own risk and the hospital was not liable as it was an unknown drug.
