My ds aged 10 has the above, he has stuff from Doc which takes 36 hours to alleviate the "gunkiness" he is really suffering. I have tried chamomile tea to wipe the area and soothe it to no avail,
what do I need to do? is it best to leave it?
also can he go to school, I do not want him to pass it on and the thought of all that gunk and stuff, but he has friend coming over after school and is really insisting he goes.
Nearly shit myself as I said oh (jokingly) hope you ain't got measles (dd 19 mths had it in Fab and ds isn't allowed vaccinations) he then showed me rash all over his trunk all red and pimply!!!!!! No temp though and otherwise fine...
Still tempted to take him to docs tomorrow though.
Mad day....

I would definitely take him to the doctors. If it wasn't for the rash I wouldn't bother much, I don't think it's very infectious (not like sticky eyes in nursery age children), but it does sound enough like measles to be worth getting it checked. The only other thing that helps soothe is warm salty water on cotton wool, but the camomile has probably done the same thing. Poor him!

1 teaspoon of sodium bicarb disolved in 1 pint of boiled water. When it's cool, use it with an eye bath to rinse the eye. This worked wonders when I had conjunctivitus and was told I couldn't use the antibiotic eye stuff as I was bf-ing. Rinsed the gunk away and helped clear the infection up.

I kept the pint of bicarb water in the fridge and poured a little out when I needed it.

Nursery rules are that they are excluded for 24 hours after treatment is started so he should be OK for school.

I will ring teh school to double check, he onnly got his scipt at 7pm tonight...
It looks awful, dd gets it recurrent due to her blocked tear ducts but never as bad as ds has it.. he has also started sneezing!
Methinks a virus too....

my 10 year old has an eye infection at the moment, too. I took him to the doctors on Mon eve. We got some 5g fucithalmic eye drops in an ointment form - the first time he's had an ointment - to be taken morning and evening. The infection cleared up pretty much after a day.

As your son has a rash as well, I'd take him back to the docs tomorrow just to be on the safe side. Possibly the rash is a side effect of the medication the doc prescribed him? or a heat rash - it's been so hot recently.
