Periods have gone bonkers - should I be worried?

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago but can't find the post, so will post here.

Usually my periods are like clockwork.
Every three weeks, 1-2 days of spotting, 2 days full on, 5-7 days spotting/tailing off

Last time it started 12november, but spotted for 4-5 days, full on (and very painful) for 2 days, then tailing off for 8 days, so it was nearly 2 weeks before it had all stopped. It's now started again.

I'm hopefully seeing the GP on Friday or early next week, but should I be worried?
I'm 40, someone before suggested peri-menopause.

Sounds very peri to me....mine started going haywire in my very early forties, then settled into a regular 28 day pattern for a year and then went odd again at 46 before giving up at the age of 51.

I googled peri menopause, and I don't have any of the other symptoms. Is crappy periods a dirt sign on its own?
