DD, 8mths has had a cough for over week and took to GP today who gave her salbutamol oral solution. Have just read leaflet about side effects being hyperactivity and insomnia. Just wondered if anyones dc have experienced any side effects from hyaving salbutamol.

No expert, but ds has a salbutamol inhaler. Are they related? The inhaler is very gentle - you can't overdose on it, for example - but I believe that it opens the airways so that more oxygen can get it. I tried it when trying to persuade ds to breath in, and it certainly had an effect, making me feel quite lightheaded, and my heart beat faster for a short while. The effect wore off very quickly though.

Sounds like something to give to calm a very irritating cough in the daytime, but to avoid towards sleep time.

I have given the inhaler at bedtime, and although it can have those effects, the effect of not coughing means that he sleeps more.

I'm rambling here really! HTH and that someone who knows about the oral solution comes along soon.
