Conjunctivitis - any advice please?

My ds (1.4) has got conjunctivitis. Got some eye cream from doctor, but while I'm waiting for it to work, is there anything that I can use to un-gum his eyes? Am currently using water and cotton wool, which eventually works. Is there anything that will
a) work better and
b) be more comfortable for him.

Any advice greatfully received.

Tia

you should use cooled boiled water and make sure you use separate cotton wool for each eye

We've got it here too, squonk. (Well dd2 Aged2, has).

Cotton wool all the way for us - the water is best warm (but not hot ) from the kettle we find.

It does respond v quickly to treatment.

have been using separate for each eye. Didn't know about the cooled boiled bit though. Thanks

Cooled boiled water - that's what I was trying to say.

Yes am with KR. Some docs don't prescribe cream these days as apparently it's usually more a viral thing than bacterial. Just the cooled boiled water with seperate cotton wool for each eye.

Should be loads better within 24 hours or so.

thanks fimblespants. Thanks for the advice everyone - will go and put the kettle on.
