She seems fine, but she had two olives with the stones in and now i'm worried about perforated bowels and the like. Any thoughts? I konw I can call my doctor tomorrow to ask but that seems like a lifetime away. Have tried loads of children's health sites but Swallowing Olive Stones is not a hot topic.

don't know about olives, but ds swallowed loads of cherry stones (about the same size?) with no ill effects...

lulumama · 11/02/2007 21:05

i would think that they will pass normally, but if you are worried, call NHS direct, 0845 46 47

Spidermama · 11/02/2007 21:05

Oh she'll be fine. They're only little things. They'll come out in her poo no problem. Honest.

mamasaid · 11/02/2007 23:28

thank you! i can go to bed now...

SueW... DD1 swallowed a plum stone too. Amazing what they can get down them isn't it? lol

I think all will be well mamasaid.

moondog · 11/02/2007 23:37

No worries.
I eat all fruit and veg stones and have never had a problem.
I consider them to function in the same way as the grit that a crocodile ingests.
Aids digestion apparently.

Aloha · 11/02/2007 23:50

"I eat all fruit and veg stones"

Now, why doesn't that surprise me, Moondog?

expatinscotland · 11/02/2007 23:55

Including avocados?

Moondog, that's weird.

I bought fussy dd some cherries this week to try. Poor old DS (just 2 with poor communication) who loves fruit and veg is desperate to try them but I've been worried about the stones. I have a feeling they would make his already explosive poo even worse!

justaphase · 12/02/2007 09:24

I think olive stones are digestible. They are actuallly good for the gut. A doctor once advised my dad to swallow the stones when he had olives - he was suffering from ulcers.

The replies to the OP on here make me feel a huge load better about my lack of action when dd, who adores olives, swallowed a couple of stones a few weeks ago phew

quietmouse · 12/02/2007 09:42

I swallowed a Coke ring pull as a teenager.

Came out after a few days

Bucketsofdynomite · 12/02/2007 13:32

Yikes quietmouse, that's gotta hurt!

serenity · 12/02/2007 13:34

DD swallowed a balloon (uninflated obviously) when she was about 5 months old. I only knew when it came out the other end. I had to have a few words with the DSs about leaving things on the floor after that.

moondog · 12/02/2007 19:12

No I don't crap avocado stones. Not as hardcore as that.
Wince at the ringpull thopugh. What an apt name too.I bet it did.
