Is there any test/exercise which I could do to determine if DD2 is ....

slightly hard of hearing?

This is just 1 example of why I think she might be.
This morning I called DD1 in from her room to ours. She ran in immediately.
I called and called DD2 (she was singing to herself) really loudly. When she eventually came in, she said she never heard me.

my dd2 is the same and I have been wondering the same things about her for a while now.

How old is she? Both of mine went through a "selective" deafness phase. Is it possible that she was just enjoying herself and didn't want to stop?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 11/02/2007 19:35

Just get your GP to refer you to an ENT. There isnt any other surefire way really.

my dd is 4 on valentines day!!!!!!

Is the GP really the way forward?

HuwEdwards · 11/02/2007 19:36

Can't make up my mind whether she just switches off into her own world or whether she genuinely can't hear...

My DD2 is 4 too. Maybe it's an age thing!

Possibly. Lets hope so.

how about the age old HV one of whispering behind her to see if she responds.

My ds went through a ohase of not responding to us,when he was about 3 yrs,so much so that I asked gp to look at his ears.It soon passed.
I did ask at his pre-school and they hadn't noticed a problem at all,so it was selective deafness after all.

fryalot · 11/02/2007 19:40

my dd1 was about that age when she did it. Her hearing is fine. However, if you are worried, a trip to the gp, or even the hv should reassure you.

Talk to health visitor and get hearing test arranged.
