Healthy habits - November

We're building on our walking habits for October and adding in a positive new diet habit for November.
Tell us your goal and check in to let us know how you're getting on!

Sounds like you're both doing really well - the dreaded weekend has struck here, only 5k. I find I'm so much more likely to get out of the house for a stroll when DP isn't here. When he is we end up rushing around and using the car or doing nothing at all (the worst!)
Fruit and veg quite good at six portions - three of those were grazing on my cut up veg so it definitely makes a difference.

I've got to 8 K today; think I'm going to have to review my expectations over the winter. I managed 10K steps easily over the summer when I could get out & walk in the evenings, but it's so much harder in the winter. It's a challenge to get to 8K at the moment, so that might need to be my target st this time of year.

T0ldmywrath · 06/11/2016 09:48

I hit 12k yesterday, no such luck with the veg though Sad I need to shop & chop, Alice sets the good example!

I am meeting up with friends for a dog walk this am but it won't be more than 5k steps I'd think (more of a gentle stroll & chatting).

It's very cold & bright here today. It is much harder in the shorter daylight hours Sauvignon

AliceInHinterland · 06/11/2016 11:05

8k is my target Sauvignon - for December I think I'm going to add in fifteen minutes of yoga to make up for the fact my evenings are so sedentary. I'm concentrating on my veg this month though, so I must try not to get ahead of myself!
I'm just going to chop three portions of veg now to graze on, it's a beautiful day today but I've got lots of house stuff to do so not wildly optimistic about my steps. Good luck today everyone!

I'm doing well on the fruit and veg, seven portions, three of which were my grazers. Steps were awful at 4K, which may explain why I was in a murderous rage! Today I'm going to yoga, and aim to get out in the sunshine - and hopefully end up in a better mood!

Hello late check in, but I hit 10k yesterday & 11k today. I'm going food shopping on Wednesday so might be able to do better on the fruit/veg side.

SauvignonPlonker · 07/11/2016 22:57

That's great, T0ld. You're really hitting the target. I'm not, have only got to 5K the last couple of days, I really struggle on working days. Tomorrow will be better (although we have a snow warning!!!) as I can do school pickup. I am doing better on the snacking front, just wish I could get out more to walk.

AliceInHinterland · 08/11/2016 07:43

Yes, my walking has gone to pot too! I've coke to realise that I really need to plan in order to hit my goals, and particularly aim to get walking in earlier in the day. Off out for a walk this morning. Veggies on target though, with a concerted effort and a lot of kale for dinner!

OP posts:
AliceInHinterland · 08/11/2016 20:12

Well I've done 9.5k and 7 veg so should be a size 6 next week! If only I hadn't also eaten my own body weight in chocolate.
I am definitely noticing a difference from both habits though, so I'm going to keep going!
I hope you're all also getting on well and feeling a difference.

I feel more motivated to achieve my step target Alice and I am really noticing how my fruit and vegetables need increasing. I would ideally like it to be second nature to reach for a healthy snack. I've a sweet tooth unfortunately.

Well done on your steps and fruit and veg today.

AliceInHinterland · 08/11/2016 21:13

I've got a terribly sweet tooth, but I figure it's better to eat chocolate and some celery than just chocolate. I really enjoy the veg too.

OP posts:
T0ldmywrath · 08/11/2016 21:15

Celery is just about the only thing I can't stand in terms of vegetables. I can just about tolerate cooked as a soup base. You're braver than me.

SauvignonPlonker · 09/11/2016 07:08

I got to 8K yesterday. And I did snack on chocolate too Blush

I'm with you on the celery, T0ld. It's the only vegetable I don't like.

Feeling a bit queasy this morning; woke up feeling sick at 1.30am - very odd. Let's hope I make it through the day at work......

AliceInHinterland · 09/11/2016 08:12

Oh no Sauvignon I hope you're holding up.
I didn't realise celery was such a controversial subject, I hope I haven't put you both off my patented prep'n'snack method.

T0ldmywrath · 09/11/2016 21:51

There's a bug doing the rounds apparently. Hope you're holding up Sauvignon.

Both targets met today. Pudding target exceeded. What can you do with a glut of cooking apples though? Wink

toldmywraath · 10/11/2016 20:14

Target met & loads of salad for tea, plus apple crumble left overs from yesterday.

AliceInHinterland · 10/11/2016 21:50

A pudding target - now that would be playing to my strengths.
Yesterday was good, walking target met and veg exceeded. Today I've done 11k walking but almost no fruit and veg! I've unexpectedly been out all day so have failed to prepare and ate on the run all day. Lesson learnt!

OP posts:
SauvignonPlonker · 10/11/2016 22:32

9K steps today as I did the school walk & back. Only 5K yesterday. & weekly average of 6K Blush. I'll try to get more walking done at the weekend.

Was getting to 10K easily over the summer. Grrr.

toldmywraath · 11/11/2016 21:45

Hello all.
It's getting really hard to keep up the 10k target, but I'm just a couple of hundred short so I'll potter at bed time & I'll make it-just. 4/5 fruit & veg today so doing better.
Have a nice weekend ( pudding target not exceeded today.)

AliceInHinterland · 12/11/2016 16:52

Yesterday was okay, 6 veg and 7k steps. Today is not looking too great but it's absolutely pouring here! Two things to address now I think,
(1) far too much sugar - any ideas for a positive target to address this?!
(2) hard to get exercise in winter - I think I can tackle this with a few changes, doing yoga, walking as early as possible, doing some weights. It must be part of the cycle of things to slow down a bit in winter but I don't want to become sluggish.

OP posts:
AliceInHinterland · 12/11/2016 16:53

Sounds like you're doing brilliantly T0ld and Sauvignon at least you have regular 'good' days.

OP posts:
toldmywraath · 12/11/2016 17:56

Awful weather here today, dog is not budging! I am only on 5k steps so not sure whether I'll make the target today. I will have to walk in the pouring rain on my own I suppose Sad Grin

SauvignonPlonker · 12/11/2016 23:09

I've managed well with the walking today (9.5K steps) & yesterday (8.5K). But the diet..... oh dear! Had book club last night & drank loads (more wine than reading!!). So had a bit of a hangover & went out for a walk to blow away the cobwebs. Then chocolate whilst watching Saturday night TV Blush

Will start afresh tomorrow...

toldmywraath · 13/11/2016 09:05

I went out in the rain last night & clocked up my 10k -very difficult with the short daylight & horrible conditions.

My diet has gone to pot though Sauvignon- I blame the season & I am determined to improve- after Christmas probably. What a cop out for me.

I'm focusing on the steps & will be introducing exercise bike in December.

AliceInHinterland · 13/11/2016 20:45

told sorry for only belatedly noticing your NC! I am unbelievably impressed with your dedication. Yesterday was rubbish, about 5k and a couple of veg, today was better on steps but worse on diet, we've been in hospital for a family member and stalking the corridors gets you fit at least if not well fed.
Sauvignon I'm very jealous of your book club membership, I think gallons of red wine are mandatory for those situations.
