zovirax is great not sure if suitable 3yo - also you can ask at the pharamacy for their own make which contains the same ingredient acylovar (sp) but a fraction of the price!

my 2 year old god daughter was given the zovirax cream by her GP when she had a few coldsores. I don't think the pharmacist will be able to recommend it though as I think the packaging says it's for older children / adults only.

i think i saw advertising recently for something you paint on which seals it and heals it underneath... anyone know what that is?

thank you to essanel, muminfife an mckenzie for your comments btw. appreciated.

There is a cream called Cymex and I was recommended it by our pharmacist for ds1, who was 5 at the time. I've just checked the tube and there's no minimum age on it.

Blistex?

DS2 has not got cold sores but has huge sore patches round his mouth (he keeps licking his lips in the cold weather) and Blistex stung a little but worked really well.

But he is 13. And he hasn't got an actual cold sore!

NappiesGalore · 11/02/2007 16:46

my mum used to use gentian violet on everything just about... (and cold sores are the same virus or grp of viruses or something as herpes, chickenpox, shingles... why thats relevent i dont know...

dont think they make/sell it anymore. is probably poisonous or soemthing

anyhoo - am most disappointed in lack of clear 'this is the exact answer to your needs' answer i was expecting... wheres the real mn, and what have you done with them all???

nappies, there is a drop-down menu of cold-sore remedies under the Blistex one - might help....

Or not....
