Has anyone had styes lanced?

Ive had 3 styes on my eyes since last June and they just wont budge.I saw my gp once and he gave me some ointment to put in but i only used it for a week as it made my eyes sorer.I have read that persistant styes may need lancing,somebody please tell me theres an alternative or that lancing is ok?

To make it worse ,dd2 slapped me right in the eye yesterday and it's very sore now.

I held cotton wool with hot water, as hot as I could stand, onto mine then poked it with a needle.

You've had them since June though. Are you sure they're styes? I always thought styes pretty much grow then exude and die down again quite quickly.

Those little hard milky type spots are a different matter though. They stay until you pop 'em.

Well the gp said they were styes as i had had aabout 7 of them before i saw my gp but they went and these have just stayed put.
It makes wearing make up difficult and im sure my eyesight has got worse.
