do they cough on purpose?

Ok, silly question, I know they don't really do it on purpose but DD has had a cough for the last 2 weeks now and it just seems like once she starts she won't let herself stop. This morning she coughed so much she made herself sick. And now I'm the worst mother in the world because all I felt was total annoyance at having to get up at 6am on the first day in about a million years when I didn't have to be up to go anywhere or do anything! I think I'll phone the doctor at 9 but is it normal for a child's cough to last this long. I've not done anything before now because she isn't sick sick but at the same time she hasn't really been herself for 2 weeks now.

DS is prone to coughs. When he was smaller (now 4) I took him to the Dr 2 or 3 times convinced he needed antibiotics etc but each time was told to sit it out. Feel a bit guilty because we now tend to ignore the cough if he is otherwise alright. I would agree that they seem to get into the "habit" of coughing

well now I feel terrible - just took her the doctor because I realised she's been coughing now for 3 weeks - and the doctor says she's very wheezy and gave us an inhaler! I am a bad bad mother.
