DH Devastating News - prostate

dahliaaa · 11/10/2016 13:30

I wrote a few days ago to say that DH had been called for an urgent appointment after an abnormal examination and follow up PSA test (for prostate.)
Found out today that the PSA level is 6006 (should be 4) and prostate cancer diagnosed. Too late for any surgery. Hormone treatment starting immediately. Bones scans/ biopsy etc to follow.
Dr said it will almost certainly have spread and it is incurable but they will look to try and manage if poss.
Can anyone give any hope or info?

Would it help to break down the situation into separate issues and have a plan for each?

Is there a support group/service you can contact to help you, the children and your DH face his incurable diagnosis?

Your situation is unclear so it's a case of rational day at a time dealing with this and being easy on yourself

Your dark fear about both of you leaving the DC ...dismiss. It's not something to think about. Day at a time...

I think that is what I need to do coldfeet.
We also have a financial prob to sort out which is just a purely practical thing plus I have various work things to sort so I think it would help just to write everything down and at least then I can look at identifying the things I CAN control.

Late to this thread and sorry that you are having to deal with this but if it's any help at all / hope at all , my uncle was diagnosed with inoperable prostate cancer and basically told to go home and enjoy what little time was left and that was at least 4 yrs ago and he's still fine , his also got picked up at some kind of routine screening he had not been ill . Best wishes to you and your family .

dahliaaa · 29/10/2016 23:23

Thank you Floral I'm obsessively trying to gather stories like that so thank you for adding one. Glad he is doing well.

Ps I realise reading back this thread that I've got my various DC confused at times Blush
It's because my posts are so identifying on this subject that I was trying to anonymise them slightly but then my head is do all over the place that I've completely failed to do it properly.
So if you read any of it and it doesn't quite make sense - it's me not you !!

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through this OP. I had a cancer scare 5 years ago and waiting for the results was absolutely awful.

MegCleary · 31/10/2016 21:50

Try and get the name of an Oncology Clinical nurse specialist the works with the oncology team you meet tomorrow. They can be a great contact point for support.

dahliaaa · 31/10/2016 21:57

Thanks Meg we have already been given nurse specialist - although seems to be tricky to get hold off (not her fault - think it's just workload.)

MegCleary · 31/10/2016 22:10

That's probably a urology nurse the oncology one may be a bit more use to you. Best of luck tomorrow

SavageBeauty73 · 31/10/2016 22:16

Good luck tomorrow.

GenghisCalm · 31/10/2016 22:22

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 31/10/2016 23:42

Good luck dahlia Star

ICantFindAFreeNickName2 · 01/11/2016 00:09

Dahlia - I found the McMillan forums very supportive when dp was diagnosed. They seem to have a forum for every type on cancer on every body part, so the treatment options / issues tend to be quite relevant.

Good Luck - you can get through this one day at a time

chatnanny · 01/11/2016 00:27

Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Murphysgirl · 01/11/2016 07:29

MrsEricBana · 01/11/2016 11:01

whataterriblefuss · 01/11/2016 11:47
