Unpleasant reaction to zomig for migraine

Gp is almost certain the headaches I've been having are migraine so she prescribe me 2 doses of zomig 2.5mg for the next time one happened. I started feeling the headache this morning and took a pill, about 9am. Within about 15 mins I felt really sick - jittery, queasy, sinuses felt tingly and cold, and the area where the headache hits felt tingly. I went to bed for about 3 hours and slept off the worst of it, but I'm only starting to feel like I'm coming round now.

I'm supposed to call the gp after the next attack, so I'll be ringing her on Monday, but in the meantime, I presume this is just an unfortunate reaction and she can prescribe something else? The zomig worked on the headache, but I think the pain is more manageable than feeling this sick.

OK, thanks, good to know it's not unheard of. I usually have the constitution of an ox, so it threw me a bit. I'll ask her for something else.

I have a horrible reaction to triptans (things including zomig and immigran) it's a shame because they're the only things I've ever taken that actually get rid of my migraines if I'm getting one, but they do make me feel like I might die, full on palpitations and chest tightness followed by sleeping for hours.

I now take topiramate regularly which has reduced the frequency of the headaches a lot (odd side effects around sense of taste though) and 900mg of aspirin plus at least a pint of water if I feel one coming on.

mongoose I have ended up with 30mg codeine, the triptans started out ok but I ended up getting more and more side effects with them over the years. They still work brilliantly on the headache but aggravate all the other symptoms nausea, vomiting, disorientation, etc.. I decided I'd rather just experience the migraine in the end. I don't doubt there's a triptan out there that will work for me but CBA to put up with side effects trying them out.

I plan to ask the doc again in a few years, seems there's always new stuff coming out.

Strangely the aspirin and coke thing works best. I use the codeine as a backup if that fails.

There are lots of other ones - I get exactly that reaction with Imigran.

Zomig is pretty much the only thing that works on my migraines (have tried loads of different ones) and I have found that if I cut the 2.5mg tablets in half then I don't get the icky jitteriness but do get the relief from the migraine.

Sounds like there are plenty of options although I have a horrible reaction to codine (not dissimilar to this one, I actually double checked the ingredients list) so that one is out. Thanks for the info.

I can feel where the headache should be, it's a weird feeling but at least I haven't had a full aura and the nausea and jitters have gone now.
