Can a cold cause hives?

Hiya,

My dd (aged 3) has had a cough/cold for the last few days and been a bit under the weather but nothing major.
Yesterday we went out to pick ds up from school and we'd been back home about 10 minutes when I noticed her scratching. I went over to check her and she was covered in hives from head to toe. I gave her some piriton and they disappeared after about 20 minutes.
We have a strong history of allergies in the family, but she hadn't eaten or drank anything, and to our knowledge she's not allergic to anything herself. I wondered whether it was part of the cold virus, and has anyone else experienced this in their little ones.

yes, a virus can cause hives.
esp in young children.

virual hives are quite common.

if it happens again, get it checked out by GP just in case.

Oh yes DS has had viral hives before. Can't give him piriton though as he goes hyper just had to let it go on its own

Hi. They've come up and down twice more today, so I popped her over to the GP just to be on the safe side. He seemed a bit clueless tbh, and said he hadn't heard of hives with a virus, but to just give her piriton.

I'm really thankful for your replies, given the dr being useless, it's really put my mind at rest

DS had a slight raised rash on his cheeks when he had a cough a few weeks ago - a few people on here said they had seen something similar. It disappeared fairly quickly though
