Try searching on "mirena" - there are stacks of threads dealing with problems

(sorry, no first-hand knowledge myself)

There is a very long Mirena thread under Health. tbh it could be an unfortunate coincidence and 2 weeks really isn't very long for it to settle down. Period like bleeding for a few weeks afterwards is not uncommon. You should have a check up at about 6 weeks anyway(reminds me mine is overdue ) to make sure the cords are there. It doesn't suit everyone but many find their side effects are outweighed by benefits longer term. If you are worried you could always call the practice nurse.

Main thread here - plenty of opinions, good and bad !

Go back to your doctor mm!

i have had a mirena.

yeah, it does take a while (4 or so weeks IMO) to settle. tummy ache, bleeding, etc v normal. not sure about the sleeping/mouth thing though?

the strings feel like scratchy wire and they dont just hang down. they could be 'wrapped around' your cervix or on the side-have a good poke around, with your leg up on the bath to find them.

thanks for the advise and link.
i think i will give it another week before i go back to the doctors.

maybe some of the symptoms have nothing to do with the coil. hopefully they will clear up.
im off to the bath for a search

i've got a mirena, had it fitted 18 months ago. it did take about 3 months to settle down, i had erratic bleeding, skin was awful, greasy hair, but after a while, it all disappeared and is fine now. i think its worth persevering with, 2 weeks is still early days. try and wait a bit longer, the place where you had it fitted normally ask you to go back after 6 weeks and get it checked so you can talk to them about it then if you still feel odd

Hi marymay, I had mine fitted Jan 04, it took 5 months to settle down, I had spot bleeding every 2 weeks or so, period cramps, greasy skin, and feeling very tired. Now, I don't have periods, no temper tantrums or mood swings, and there is no weight gain which I had while taking the pill. I personally am happy with it now, although at the begining I did want to be rid of the thing.

Just had mine removed after 4 years of side effects. Doctor initially has tried to diagnose me with ME /CFS . Since insertion 2008 2 stone weight gain , hair thinning, low moods, low sex drive, no menstruation, fatigue . Only by chance last week did I find it could be attributed to Mirena. Ive been under an endocrinologist for 6 months for testing and no mention by them or GP about Mirena. Will be interesting to see if symptoms lift .......
